One of my 'watch this space experiments' is sprue goo.

Looks easy enough to make but, how long does it last in a bottle, or is it easier to make it in small portions?

Anybody had experience of sprue goo?

I've had some in an old Mr Color paint bottle for a number of years. It thickens up over time as the solvent evaporates but I just add more TET when needed.

If I remember correctly I made half a bottle and it'll probably still be going long after I'm gone.

It does dry out a bit in the bottle, but takes a year or two before you notice it.

One word of CAUTION - if you put it on heavy as a thick paste, then it WILL STAY ACTIVE FOR DECADES.

Just remember ---------------- it is an ACTIVE glue you have made.

In other words, apply sparingly and wait till it dries out COMPLETELY before another coat, like 24 hrs under a 100watt light bulb, so the plastic warms up a bit more than the air temp, to force the active glue to dry.

DO NOT get the light globe too close to the model, or the heat WILL deform the model.

I used it on the top of a sleeper box as I was cutting and shutting the sleeper box, I got sick of waiting to let it dry out completely and foolishly added to thick a coat to the join.
That 35 yrs ago and now the top of the sleeper box has gone ALL SOFT, so BEWARE it will keep working, even though you can not see it happening.

For a filler that is easy to use, then ditch that bottle of glue with sprue and use Super Glue as a filler, just sprinkle Baking Soda over the wet super glue and it instantly hardens to a rock.
Easy to get rid of the extra super glue and baking soda, just use a file, or wet and dry paper to remove the ugly top from the lump of stuff you have created.

LOTS stronger and sticks far better than that goop you just made and it all happens in an instant as well, no long waiting period for it to dry AT ALL.
