Top job on the mesters ron matey! They look just right , i saw some figures the other day in a magazine and they had painted in the eyes , they looked like cartoon characters !, far better just to use a bit of dark shadow to give the impression as youve done Great job on the camo jacket too , keep it up mate , cheers tony

Thank you for your great, and humorous posts boys, all makes the day go round......

Here's the latest phase.

I've been avoiding doing any foliage and hoping not to have to do it, primarily 'cos I've never done trees and any (to my eyes) complicated greenery before, but the place looks bare without something 'Growing'. So here is my bash at a line of greenery on a bank:-

I started off by making a wrecked post and wire fence. The posts are thin slivers of stirrers and the wire brown cotton.

I thought hard and long on what to use for the tree trunks. There had to be something that was natural - and free - I was having my soggies the other day, and I always have a couple of grapes with them....Bingo! The stalks from the bunch of grapes! I let these dry for a few days, then cut and glued them in place. A coat of very dark brown/ black paint and that's it...

I then added some foliage on the floor of the bank, nicked from the wife's artificial 'Flarz' basket amd sprinkled all sorts of rubbish over the job.

Finally, I added the leaves to the trees and bushes using the same stuff as the bottom cover. I have a very finely ground green herb that I might sprinkle on later....we'll see, but I'm well happy how my first foray into 'proper' landscaping has turned out!

The pictures show the three stages, plus a general view of how the model is shaping up.

Thanks for your post Malcolm, glad you like the progress....

As it's kinda damp outside, I've done a bit more to the village.

After doing the greenery by the road, the lavoir looked a bit naked so I've given that area a few bushes ect., and also the area by the picnic bench. The same method as the roadside stuff.

I noticed when the pictures were blown up, the bushes looked a little bit prickly here and there, almost like cactus. So the wife is off finishing the shopping and getting a suitable herb wot looks like 1/72 leaves........These I will sprinkle on and see what they look like. If nothing else the herbs will make the model smell nice!

As I posted earlier, this tree and bush lark is all new to me, so I'm sort of experimenting and learning as I go along, I hope you get something out of it too!

The first pictures are the stages for the bushes, the last is the bench area.

That's it for now, I hope you approve. I'll await the bride's return and see what she's come back with.

wow those grape stalks look brilliant Its great seeing what can be done with these simple materials. I feel inspired by this to have a go at making diorama for my first tank thanks for sharing your methods gives me a lot of encouragement to have a try.

Thanks ever so much for the great posts boys.....I'm chuffed my model is giving some of you that little nudge needed to jump into this crazy, fun world of dioramas.

Right, here's the PAK 40's opposition:-

I've had this 1/72 Sherman in a box for gawd knows how long. I can't even tell you what make it is.....

I've had a look on Google Images and I noticed two things straight away. The surprising number of combat Shermans without the white stars on them. They must have been a excellent aiming point for the German 88mm A.T. gun., I've seen pictures of Shermans with these features dulled down or even painted over....

Also the amount of 'Junk' carried by these tanks. I suppose with the crew living in them, they would scrounge what was around that might be useful and strap it on, even using odd bits of strange tank track welded on for extra protection. I've also stuck a bit of extra armour plate to the hull and turret sides.

Anyway, right or wrong, here is my interpretation.

Three stage pictures. The add-ons are just bits of cloth, some mini netting from a bunch of oranges and some scrap balsa boxes, all tied down with cotton, and haversacs from my bits bag. Then the model dunked in my tin lid of dust! The antenna is a bit thick so I might change that...there again...

Oh, and I've done a third coat of varnish on the cut surface....

OOH me grapes! Those bushes look excellent matey , and probably taste ok too seen as most of it is edible!!! Which herb did you use? Not only is this dio very tasty looking it probably smells good too!! cheers matey , tony
