Thanks Geoff for hosting the 'US Icon's GB',

My project will be this Eduard 1/48 F6F-3 Hellcat in flight :


Sprues - also includes a fuel droptank and bombs,








Decals - Clear parts,


This kit includes 4 color schemes, I'll go with scheme 'B' a shark-mouth from VF-27


Looking forward to this, at the moment also quite occupied with renovation plans

Hi Chris, the Wildcat was the first design (combat around 1940), it had problems with the new Zero fighters, so Grumman started a new design (combat around 1943) which had almost double the engine power, this became a real Zero killer and dominated the Pacific airwar.

Thanks guys, made a start on this one...

the cockpit went together well and will get a resin pilot,


A small issue with the engine-front, had to do some scraping inside so the shaft sits horizontal,


I'm doing color-scheme 'B', for this scheme you'll have to remove the bulges on the side of the engine cowling.
This was a bit tricky, started with a file and scraped off the last bit.


For the horizontal stabilizer I believe you'll need to remove this injector pin, it looks like an inside support part but it isn't.


Progress so far, can't wait to start painting something lol
