This is the kit I'm basing my effort on:

Sprue shots later, but I've had a look in the box and there are one or two things that will need addressing.

I'm not sure when I'll start but a busy schedule in the first half of next year means I won't be finishing any time soon :)

Cheers

Steve

Is it me or does it just look odd with the floats on ?

But I'm sure you will do a great job on this one Steve looking forward to it no matter how long it takes but work comes first after all it pay's the bills

There you are Steve. Old Mitchell got the idea from the Walrus. :D

He just left a wing off.

Interesting as it is a weird one and I like weird ones or ones that are not usual. Interesting that they call it a float plane and not a seaplane.

Now that looks interesting Steve , I wasn't expecting to see the Vokes intack on it though :)

I never seen one of these before

Very interesting subject Steve!

PS: thanks for join in Steve ;)

The Vokes was initially fitted, but extended inlet duct for the regular intake was also fitted, presumably to stop the engine sucking in water, as far as I can make out in the fuzzy photos.

But then what's this ?

I'm not sure if there is a definite right and wrong, depending which of the three you model and at what time.

.

I'm more worried about the fin. The kit definitely has a standard Mk V fin, not the extended area version shown on the box art and above which would be correct. The upper horizontal stabiliser parts look weird and I'm not sure about the windscreen either.

The seat is wrong but might be disguised with a pilot rather than replaced.

More will probably be revealed when I start :)

I think a floatplane is one that uses floats as opposed to a flying boat which floats on a fuselage/hull. I'd have thought they could both be called seaplanes, though I wouldn't fancy the Spitfire in a heavy swell with 7' waves :)

Cheers

Steve

If the tail unit is all wrong I think Grey Matters do a replacement-

You are very right Steve. Looking at the tip of the propeller there is not much room for manoeuvre. I certainly would not fancy being the pilot especially landing in a chop.

Thanks Ian, I'll think about that. It might be fixable with some card, milliput etc but £14 quid sounds quicker and easier :)

Cheers

Interesting subject Steve. I saw one of these for sale sometime ago, but never done anything about it, so I'll be happy to see yours built.

You are most welcome. Does you Spitfire also have the heavy seam tapes on the rudder....

Cheers Ian...no idea. I'll have a look when I get 1001 relatives out of the house :)

The Greymatters resin you linked to would fix that too. It's becoming more appealing by the minute !

Cheers

Steve

Looking forward to this build. Coming full circle as the the Spitfire came from a seaplane originally.

Not sure I'd go that far Dave, though I see where you're coming from :)

A lot of lessons learnt on the S.6B were certainly an advantage when Mitchell came to design what became the Spitfire.

Cheers

Steve

And if you have a couple or three £100 notes, you can but one of those in 1/24 in resin.....

1001 relatives!!! we had 5 over and that was more than enough lol

Ian M

That's surely one WIP to follow.

It will be quite huge with the floats on.
