Tell you what. Its amazing what a bit of practice does. I hated BMF on the 300sl but im really beginning to like the effect. BMF isnt easy especially when you have fingers like sausages but after a bit of practice it beats painting these areas in.

I layed down the bmf in three parts burnished in with cocktail stick folded over and then sealed the whole area with 2 coats of clearcoat on both sides View attachment 248651

to stop it from lifting up as the model ages. (The 300sl bmf is starting to lift away in places now)

Just doing the rear chrome trim. All complete just got the right corner to do but got to help bath the kids. Just noticed a blob of glue that seems to have run out of the rear splitter. So im goint to file that with a pin nose file to reduce the appearance. View attachment 248786

Rear window painted & installed. Wasnt happy with the wingmirrors so have sanded back again and will give another go over. The black was too glossy and it just wasnt upto the standard I wanted.

Just got the front numberplate to do and the side vents along with wingmirrors and rear reflectors before starting work on underchassis and interior.View attachment 248966

I went to order some BMF Marc and they are out of stock! Good job I'm not starting mine for a while. Yours just looks superb mate :)

Lovely looking build so far, you have painted it to a high standard mate, look forward to the finished article.

I'm desperate to get some build time on my Renault 5 turbo and this is making me more frustrated haha maybe at the weekend I can grab a wee bit of time.

Thanks dougie. Im quite pleased with it too, i think the paintwork would be slightly better on the original body as more time was spent on prep that the replacement one. But its ok yes and most importantly enjoyable.

I thought that i would try to make the underside of the car as realistic as possible. I added alot of texture to the underside of the car where the gearbox and differential sit. I did this in a matt black waited for it to go tacky and then stabbed a brush over it to make it look textured. I then did a black powder dust over it before fullly dry to simulate road grime.

The subframes i wanted to look like a real car subframe. So i sanded it down, painted with matt black, then did a brown wash to simulate rust. I then did a black powder dust to tone down and blend and then did some pronunced brown parts by dry brushing certain areas in brown and then finishing off with a semi gloss black on the bits that didnt see rust yet again blended with black powder.

The gearbox cover was a combination of gloss black base and a dry brush of matt black and bolts picked out with silver.

The exhaust pipe was painted with Alclad titanium sliver, buffed to a shine and then a black pinwash on the heatsheild.

The heatsheild i wante to really shine. So for these i used humbrol metalcoat and kept the brush strokes pronunced to make it look like road wear.

The front part were painted matt black with a lot of oil stain to dull it up to look like plastic covers that have seen some road.

Now i am knackered i have been on this since 10 am this morning and now im having a cup of tea

Great work on the differing tones especially going to so much detail underneath the model. I think you deserve that cup of tea:)
