This is looking really good John. Its a very impressive kit isn't it?. Somebody makes after market resin wheels for this model. I can't see why anyone would want them.I built up my wheels last night and all the tread sections were a perfect fit. Best looking wheels I've seen (and I've built a lot of kits over the years!). Incredible engineering by Tamiya.

Thanks Colin. Yes Dave, I agree, it's an amazing kit. I'm learning so fast that now, about 2/3rds through, I wish I could start again! In truth tho I'm already planning something else, maybe a bit more dioramaish, I'm not sure, but certainly large scale again, since fat fingers and shaky hands do not = a good recipe for tiny parts. Did someone mention a 1:24 spitfire???? :)

There's clearly a lot of fantastic detail in the kit and you've done a tremendous job on it.

It's yet another BIG kit which looks very tempting.

Cheers

Ghosts in the machine...

picking up a tiny bomb clamp in tweezers, I squueezed too hard and 'ping..........'

Then spent an hour clearing the entire worktop etc to no avail

So now ofc I believe in Gremlins...what are they making with all the bits they steal?? :)

Thank you Scott, it's been a steep learning curve but I'm starting to understand more now. Great forum btw. Enjoying all I read here.

Heaven knows, but it's big!

They've had one of the radiator flap actuator arms off my Bf 110 today. I lost it exactly as you lost your bomb clamp. I have a rug and a slate floor but neither stops some bits displacing themselves by significant distances, I don't know where the energy comes from.

I find that the vacuum cleaner with an old and disused pair of SWMBO's tights stretched over the nozzle to catch small parts works quite well as a retrieval aid, though you'll also pick up all sorts of other little plastic bits that you spent hours trimming off the model parts.

Cheers

Great idea about the tights! We won't go into more detail :)

Thanks 'lousy photos' I hope to do all this kindness some justice then...better find that missing clamp!

Made me laugh, did the same thing twice last night with the same part and then a different one on my Coyote build. grey plastic on a very light blue carpet aint funny !! :D :D:D:D

I've just caught up with this one and boy what a result your doing. I really like all the detailing your doing and the story behind the aircraft is a good part of involving the history behind the aircraft.

Stunning work

Thanks all

Steve, you need to borrow Stona's tights idea! :) .

Anyway...been a few days and been ploughing on.

The Bombs were finally attached to the bomb rack courtesy of a scratch built clamp (the tights didn't work :) )

Bomb bay sidewalls were painted and attached, then the bay doors (yet to be weathered).

Next flaps, which were easy until the tiny photo etched hinge pieces...first time I've felt Tamiya's instructions might have been clearer.

More pics follow.

John, this is looking really nice mate the navigator with map brought a smile to my face, is that all part of the kit?

Also is this the new Tamiya 1:32 that everyone's been raving about?

Also is this all stick painting or are you using a airbrush aswell.

Watching from here on in and looking forward to some more pictures.

Quality work so far

Regards

Thanks Phil.

Yes it's the new 1:32 mosquito. Probably too hard for a bebginner like me to do perfectly, but a great experience. So very different from the models of my teens :)

The map is part of the kit, along with 100 other minute decals, about 60 photo etched parts and bits of plastic so fragile that my splint supply ran out long ago (fat, clumsy fingers, haha)

I've brush painted all but the inner fuselage so far...airbrush comes next (I'm so worried about this that I have started an 'advice please' thread in the painting chit chat section!).

Thanks for watching it grow. I love it really but wife is keen to have a reunion party when it's finally finished, she says I owe her 100 hours so far :)

Excellent thanks for the reply, I have just started modelling for the first time since I was a child, and what your saying all sounds familiar especially about the reunion with the wife!

All this airbrushing lark and PE is new too me by having great fun and learning loads, Sao much so I even recently purchased my second AB.

Looking forward to seeing the next update.

Cheers

TWO air brushes Phil? That's posh, or serious modelling! I can't get the one I own to do anything sensible!
