I'm off to the Lake District on Monday so wanted a quickie that I could finish before then. What better than a Tamiya.

A great kit that fits together very well indeed, even if the wheels are a bit weird with the tyres made out of 5 sections.

There are a couple of figures in the box too. I might make a base for it, including those, when I get back from my jollies.

















And a picture with the Kubelwagen that it was based on, in a previous diorama.

Lovely job Andy, with your usual quality finishing. Of particular note (to me) is the wood effect on the paddle. That’s excellent work, and a minor SBS on how you did it would be most enlightening…..

@Tim Marlow The wood is surprisingly simple, with only 3 steps. Four if you want a final gloss varnish as I did here.

I start by basing the item in a "woody" colour. Here I used AK's Cork, but go lighter or darker as required.

I then use a very coarse brush that came in some cheap multipack. With Burnt Umber or similar, having the brush almost dry, I'll put in some lines for the grain. I sometimes take a few attempts but as you know, being acrylic it just wipes off and I can try again.

Once I'm happy with that it'll get a couple of coats of Citadel Sepia shade (/wash) paint until it's where I want it to be. By putting it on lightly, following the previous grain direction, it can add a bit of variation itself rather than just flowing around as it normally would.

Fantastic job andy , paintwork is superb , wonder how this compares to the old 1970 tooling Tamiya schwimmwagen ?

I might look out for an older one and do a side by side.
