Hi chaps!

This weekend I have been thinking about it....

My intention is to go at this event, and this year lol

Of course I will search the best option for me to come... I want to visit a bite England, again, so I'm deciding if to travel with car or train.(plane is my last option...)

Has Telford and the proximitie a good train infrastructure?

Can you give me some advice.

I have no problem to sleep on other towns and travel to Telford in the morning.... :)

Well....seems I will see some of you there :D :D :D

Thanks for your help!

Hi Polux -

If you come by car via Dover then it is a bit under 4 hours from Dover to Telford. You can also catch a train from Dover and get to Telford in a bit over 4 hours but there is a change in London where you need to get to Euston station from either Charing Cross or St Pancras.

By the way - if you do come via Dover, its where I live, why not pop by and say hello - a beer or two perhaps?. It is unlikely I will be going to Telford this year. Let me know.

Dover is the most popular and frequently served ferry port from France but you will have to drive a bit further to get there from your home. Alternative crossing from St.Malo, Roscoff, Bilbao, Santander and Caen/Ouistreham are longer but much more leisurely. If you go from Caen/Ouistreham you could explore some of the D-day beaches - Sword beach and Pegasus Bridge are lose to the ferry port. The ferries arrive at Plymouth or Portsmouth - there is a rich naval heritage in Portsmouth with HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and a D-day museum. Road travel from Portsmouth and Plymouth is easy and about the same travel time from Dover.

Or you could take the train to Paris and the Eurostar to London then change for travel to Telford.

Yep!!

Thank you very much for your info! Is really useful!!

Thanks for the invitation Barry!! Noted ;) all will depends....which one will be my "locomotion system" :D :D :D

By the way, after a fast look, the Eurostar is much better than rent a car O_o

Hi!!

Can someone tell me if there is a nice city/town/village near Telford with some lovely hotel/Youth Hostel/ or similar.... Please!!

Some of you go at the show...which are your options?!?

Thanks

Polux

Well for starters you've got Ironbridge, Bridge North and Shrewsbury all close by nice little towns for a visit. Not sure of hotels but may be worth a Google search of the area for a little B&B.

My options easy I live 18 mile away so I stay at this lovely little place I call home :)

Thanks Adrian!

I understand that Shrewsbury and Ironbridge are town...?

Yes, Ironbridge is a small local village and Shrewsbury a bigger town, have you thought about stopping at Walsall Junction 10 of the M6, there are four hotels within yards of each other, then all you need to do is hop on the M6 for one junction the get onto the M54 this takes you right to Telford, I'd say about 30 mins travel time.

Adrian

Hmm just thinking I should set up a B&B for those travelling to show :)

Wolverhampton is also close by and you should try to take in the Royal Air Force museum at RAF Cosford between Wolverhampton and Telford - it even has its own train station.

Maybe Polux just needs to offer enough beer tokens... :-)

There are 3 premier inns/ travel lodges in Telford, one about 500yds from the venue, holiday inn is next door to the international centre, international centre has a hotel. Then the park inn and greys hotel are within 2 miles. A bit further out you have 3 hotels in ironbridge ( 5 miles away) one of the world heritage sites, a few pubs that also do bed and breakfast in the same area. I can pm you some links if it helps.

Seems I will visit Telford this year :)

But, I only know that, I suppose, will be a nice event and a perfect place to meet some friends from this forum.

Anyway....what is Telford?

What I have to expect?

Is one of the biggest events on England? Europe? O_o

More sellers than models..? Or more models than sellers...?

here are a few comments for you

I see that the hostel at Ironbridge is already booked, but here is the website, they may just have a cancellation

www.yha.org.uk/hostel/ironbridge-coalport

Just search on Google for 'telford-accommodation' and there are lots of references. Whatever you decide, book as soon as possible. The show is very big and popular, and b&bs, hotels, and so on are booked up very quickly. That does mean that wherever you stay there might well be other modellers to talk to and get a lift with

The show is very big; 3 large halls with lots of displays from Britain and abroad, and lots of trade stands (trade =sellers) here is the website www.smwshow.com It is certainly the biggest show in Britain, and one of the biggest in the world. The traders will sell new & old kits, tools, materials, accessories - take plenty of money! I'm sure there are lots of good pubs & cafes in Telford, but the food in the exhibition hall itself tends to be the usual greasy burgers.

Telford itself is an ordinary, mostly modern town, but the countryside around is typical nice English countryside - rolling hills, patchwork fields, pretty villages, though November is probably not the best time to see it! Also, at Ironbridge there are lots of museums as that was the start of the Industrial Revolution, mostly pottery and iron & steel; plus the iron bridge itself. Blists Hill is a re-creation of a Victorian industrial village. Search for 'ironbridge ' or 'ironbridge gorge' on Google. Or try 'tourist information telford'.

Close to Telford is a very good, and large aircraft museum, worth making time for www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford

So you live near the Pyrenees? I have a friend from Tarbes who has lived in Britain for many years; he runs Model Art Decal System, and goes to all the major model shows. As you might expect he speaks fluent French and English, perhaps you could arrange to meet him on his trade stall? He might also be able to help & suggest accommodation as he goes to Telford every year, and stays at local hotels. contact him on his website www.modartdec.com

Try searching for "Bed and Breakfast". For example:

http://www.bedandbreakfastsearcher.co.uk/shropshire/telford.asp?fselect=&filter=Z18&reorder=null

This site offers a rooms for one night from £23 and up. UK B & Bs are usually reliable, and friendly.
