I've been away from my mates here for far too long 'cos me and the present Mrs. Ron have been on walkabout!

We spent a week on the I.O.W., then straight after, the Biggy....

A cracking week cruising up and down the River Rhine visiting the local Christmas Markets along the way. Brilliant scenery and castles and the amount of river traffic is amazing. All shapes and sizes carrying all sorts of cargo, great fun to watch. Some had the owners car or cars on the arse end, a couple even had a small helicopter too!

One of the highlights for me was to be able see the bridge (the remains anyway) at Remagen, which the Germans tried and failed to destroy during their retreat in WW2, thus allowing American Armour to cross the river....The bridge eventually collapsed a few days later, but enough Allied equipment had got across.

There was a good P.A. system on board so when we were a bit away from Remagen I went below for a quick coffee, safe in the knowledge that the passengers woulkd be informed of the town's approach.

I came back on deck and the Tannoy came into life......

"Hello ladies and gentlemen, a few minutes ago we passed the town of Remagen and just coming into view is the little village of Blah Blah, famous for it's chocolate!"

So that was it, I missed the one place I really wanted to see and take some pictures of! No mention from the speaker what went on there either.

So here I am back safe after a nearly 20hrs.return coach journey (8.30am Wed. to 4.00am yesterday!)

It's great to be back, reading all the new stuff.....Have I got a mega catch up. lol

Cheers all,

Ron

Glad you had a great holiday, time to recharge the batteries and sorry you missed the bridge. I take it, it must have been a youngish tour guide not knowing the importance of the bridge hope you get to see it and wellcome back

Welcome back Ron. Glad that you had a good trip. Shame about that bridge though.

Good to hear you had a nice time mate , sounds great. cheers tony

I guessed you'd gone gallivantin' off with the missus as it'd gone all quiet at your end! Welcome back young Ron. Are we going to see the end results of your latest project sometime soon - now you're back in the land of the livin'?

Thanks for the nice welcome back boys. It's good to be back and after all that time on the coach my a*** thinks so too!!!

Ian (papa), the tour guide was a miserable sawn off old crone who was old enough to have been there when the bridge collapsed!

Thanks Ian M and Tony for your posts. It was a pity I missed the bridge...Hey ho! Not to worry.

Dave, I can't do anything with the sniper dio. just yet....My 40yr old son is playing with it at his house, along with my Grandson!lol

Cheers all,

Ron
