Hi all,

I need some advice from the aircraft builders! I'd like to try an aircraft kit & I was thinking of this one :

Patrick, to get your eye in, would it not be better to go for a smaller scale?

There again, I'm sure you will make an excellent job of it - whatever scale!

Well, I was thinking that this is closest to the armour scale that I'm used to - I think 1/72 would be too small for my clumsy fingers!

But maybe a practice run on one of the new airfix kits might be a good idea

It's a newish and good kit. There are one or two little things to be aware of but nothing difficult or hard to fix. It is also an accurate model of a Bf 109 if you are worried about that.

As you are hardly new to modelling I don't see why you couldn't build this kit. I think almost all the skills from the different modelling genres are transferrable.

Cheers Steve, that's what I'm after really - something without too many nasty surprises like needing huge amounts of filler!

The kit is very good with great surface detail. The front cowlings are separate parts (to allow for further 109 variants) so will need careful assembly but the kit is well engineered and shouldn't present any probs.

Question: is 1:32 the new 1:48?!!!!!

That's a good point Paul, & knowing me I'd end up with an early front & a late rear! Iuckily there's a very helpful review I've found, so that will be an invaluable guide.

And if you're not sure of which options go with which version (silly little things like the oil filler points) you can always ask here

Dont feint but I have bought the self same kit! I will be watching to find all the traps before I start mine !

The biggest challenge you will face, going over from armour, is the paint colours. Oh and masking cockpit canopies....

That is a good guide, at least as I flicked through it, and answers most of the questions I'd expect about the various versions of the G-6.

There were a lot of variations and no real standard production G-6. The G-14 was a failed attempt to consolidate the various changes adopted throughout G-6 production into an updated standard. By the time this was attempted circumstances, not least the allied bombing, were making supply chains unreliable and aircraft tended to be built with available components and engines, any standard going out the window.

Along with 'what colour were Spitfire wheel wells?' the question 'when does a G-6 become a G-14?' is one of those universal imponderables

The force is strong in you , embrace the dark side Lord Patrick! Its a great place to start Patrick , and at 1/32 its a nice manageable size too. As has been said its a newish tooling and got favourable reviews when released , and if its anything like most of Revells recent stuff it should be nicely detailed, well fitting and with excellent decals. Looking forward to seeing this one under construction , cheers tony

But I've dabbled with some Revell armour, so I know they're usually a decent fit

This is where it starts Patrick - you dable with a Revell 109G, then next the Tammy Mustang/Corsair/Zero/Spitfire superkits leading to a stash of a dozen Trumpy and Hassy 1:32s..... a small step then a giant leap. Welcome to the dark side...........

Thanks Barry! Although the Tamiya kits are way off in the future, I can hardly believe they cost so much!
