Hi guys
Is it correct that tamiya thinners can be used to thin humbrol gloss varnish.
I was always told that these products weren't compatible but according to a mate they are?

That's the stuff Patrick, the next question is it any good? As I've finally ran out of klear and I need to find a replacement

Umm if you'd have asked me 6 months ago, I'd have recommended it whole heartedly.

But recently I've found the finish to be somewhat patchy & that's with a new bottle. It could just be me of course!

But I'm thinking about trying Alclad Aqua Clear Gloss from positive reviews I've seen.

Since the demise of the original Klear, the pursuit of a really good gloss varnish has been a tricky one!

I have just used the last of mine that I bought years ago.
I've had good results with tamiya' x22 but it works out a bit expensive to use all the time.

It's cr4p! It fogs, leaves tide marks on canopies and doesn't give a gloss finish even after several coats. I will never use it for anything other than cockpit decals.

I've had trouble with the Humbrol stuff as well. I've binned it now.....

Interesting to read your comments. I use it for all my models and i guess it seems ok to me, but Ive not tried any alternative products so thats got me thinking it might be worth trying out something else and comparing the difference. One thing I do know is that its quite temperature sensitive and really does need a good shake before you use it.

Interesting Col because I've always thought that X22 was designed to be added to matt paint in order to make it glossy, rather than as a standalone gloss varnish.

If you get the chance, could you please post some pics of something you've used X22 on?

TIA

That looks really good Col, many thanks for showing that.

I might have a play around next week.
