Tim’s 1/48 Eduard FW 190 A-2

Beautiful cockpit Tim , very neatly done . Must be the season for joystick gremlins - mine disappeared too ! 🤔

They’ve probably flown South for the winter 😁. Quite fiddly cockpit, but working back to front on the tub got all the bits in. Worst bit was getting the separate IP in place once the tub was fitted to the sidewall.

Very nice indeed, it's just a pity it will be covered up mostly when it's closed up.
Thanks for the compliment Garry. Always the way with aircraft builds isn’t it. Pity really, as it’s one of the most fun parts.

Looks great Tim 👍

If you hadn’t mentioned the joystick not being the original I wouldn’t have noticed 😮

Geoff.

Cheers Geoff, very kind. I mentioned the joystick because I didn’t want anyone to think the kit part was a bit naff…..the kit is excellent.

Looks like a nice kit.
It is Ian. Excellent engineering and top class mouldings so far. Proof of the pudding will be in the fit of the wings as always though….

More progress….

Airframe just about done. Just a little filler to clean
up and then the tail and control surfaces can be added…..

As you can see, fit was pretty good…

Underside needed a little filler…..

One side of the wing fillet needed a touch of filler….

and just a little here….

This filler still needs dressing and polishing, by the way….I won’t leave it rough like this 😉

As you can see, the wing leading edge needed a smidge as well. Fit was as good as anyone though. This sort of final filling is meat and drink for an aircraft build….

Busy prepping the rest of the little bits now, then clean up and paint…

Glad the fit has been good. As you say a little filling is needed even on the best plane kits. Is the filler the Deluxe Perfect Plastic Putty stuff? I find it excellent in many respects but it seems absorbent to paint and can show sometimes.

No Jim. Filler in this case was Mr White filler for big gaps, and Mr Surfacer 1000 for hairline cracks. I also have some Ammo and some Tamiya lacquer filler.
I don’t use acrylic filler much as I find it’s adherence is not great and it is difficult to sand to a feather edge. I did use a little acrylic filler (Ammo I think) on the one hairline crack in the wing root because it is so easy to clean up with a damp cotton bud, but that’s the only real use I’ve found for it. I had some PPP a few years ago, but found it went off in the tube when there was still loads left, so haven’t replaced it.

A lot of people like thet PPP but I have been disappointed with it recently. I think you're right in that a lacquer filler is best. Sands better and sticks better. Thanks

Just ordered some Mr White filler.
