Tim’s Hobbyboss 1/48 Fleet Air Arm Avenger MkI

Still slowly extracting the digit……
Now masked, primed, and pre shaded…..

Should start getting colour on it this week…..I can do the underside, just got to wait for the top coat colours to come from John……

Like Staus Quo though, this goes on, n, on, n, on, n, on, n, on, n, on, n, on….

In fact, it’s taking me so long these two have now grown up…..

Looking good Tim!

Hey Hey,we have progress!!:thumb2:
Nice stuff mate,I look forward to the next update..... whichever month next year it'll be in!! :tears-of-joy:

Just to annoy Andy ;) , a quicker than usual update…..
Sky undersides and ancillaries done…..

Did the wheel covers as well, but forgot to include them in the shot….

Preshade looking OK under the sky, so I’m quite pleased with it. Shows off the rivet lines nicely. This thing has more rivets than a Shackleton I think….
Can’t get any further until the upper surface paint arrives now though…..gives me time to mask up (yet again) and mark the camouflage pattern on with a pencil…..so not a total loss. I could always progress the rockets, torpedo and wheel gear as well. I am starting to see the end in the distance now though (thank God)…..

Good progress there Tim, that will fox Andy ;)
The camo pattern will be interesting, looking fwd to that

That preshade has worked well Tim. It's easy to obliterate it but your delicate airbrushing has allowed it to show through just right.

Cheers Jim. I find that quite easy with sky, but harder with the darker top colours. I’ll be using SMS paint for the first time as well, so keeping my fingers crossed…..

Would that be the SMS premium lacquers Tim?

If so I'd like to hear your opinion when you get around to using them. I've heard good things.

I'm confused over the term Lacquers , seems means two different things on here .
I was under the impression that a lacquer was cellulose based.
Then I read that Tamiya are acrylic based lacquer ?

Scale modeller supply premium lacquer yes Andy. For some reason SMS gets converted when you type it LOL…

Confusing as hell John, but they are both lacquers. The trouble is we only use part of the name……cellulose based lacquers are really called nitrocellulose and acrylics are properly called acrylic lacquers. There are also water based lacquers…….oh, and shellac (French polish), which I’m sure you’ve used……that’s a lacquer as well…..
The lacquer part is the resin binder and pigment left behind when the solvent evaporates……they are formulated to work with the particular solvent used.
