Hi,

Quick question. I was planning on using tamiya's acrylic gloss coat over decals prior to weathering. Can I use revell levelling thinner or will this damage the tamiya acrylic paint and/or decals?

Thanks
Simon

If in doubt try it out. Just not on them model .

I didn't know Revell had a levelling thinner. Did you mean Mr Hobby?

I would certainly take on board Ian's suggestion. Like Pete I haven't come across a levelling thinner from Revell.

If it’s the Mr Hobby levelling thinner (MLT) the answer is yes, it should be fine. I‘ve used it many times like that, using both Mr Color and Tamiya paint and varnishes. Tamiya and Mr Color paints are very similar in formulation so are compatible. I’ve never yet had a problem with decals being adversely affected by MLT.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. This modelling lark can be pretty complicated

No probs Simon. You’ll need some sort of respiratory protection though, MLT is similar to cellulose thinners, but not quite as “hot”. It’s also best to lay it on in thin coats.

Thanks Tim, I wear a mask when I airbrush, but definitely worth mentioning.
