As I had mentioned once before, I am having a new studio built in which the man of the house (me) gets to do the things HE wants without interference (he says hopefully) from other persons, who for reasons of safety (mine), shall remain anonymous.
The plan is to have an area for modelling and an area for art, and anything else that takes my fancy, it's my place after all ;)
Anyway, my builder mate who is doing the work made a start a couple of months ago, and as he is only able to fit my job in on a Saturday due to his day job, has been plodding on and we are starting to see progress now.
The main structure is now up, and the metal cladding and windows have been ordered, for which we wait very impatiently.
Size wise the room will be 6m x 2m with a deck outside for relaxing in contemplative times.
Obviously I am keen to get into my new space, but like with building models I have to be patient, and am only expecting to be in in the new year.
There won't be too many updates as progress is very slow, due to the nature of things, but I will give the occasional one.
I am not doing too much of anything myself while I get my various health issues sorted out.
Cheers
Garry

SWMBO had her studio built 10 years ago, and I stay out of hers, so I expect (hopefully) the same from her ;)

Thanks Andy, ask as many questions as you like, and I'll try my best to answer them.
Lovely

I could only dream about a space like this for modelling :smiling4:
Thanks Si, I've dreamed for long enough now, so the time has come the walrus said :smiling2:

Yet to be decided Chris, at this stage I'm concentrating on getting the building up and usable.
Looks as if it's going to be a great space to enjoy your hobbies.
I certainly hope so Jim, well that is the idea anyway.

Well that's going to be impressive! I hope you remembered, electrics, heating, beer fridge, sandwich maker and teas maid?

Tick, tick, tick, fail, tick.
4 out of 5 is not too bad Lee, I'll have go into the house for the sandwiches though :smiling2:
I'll have to move a bed in there for when I'm in the dog box.

Garry, you can have your sandwich maker... don't tell swmbo you've moved her in! :flushed:

Firstly, it looks impressively well made!

Given your location I wondered how things were different. In England there are limits to what we can build without applying for planning permission /permit. Outbuildings close to a boundary can't be over 2.5m high and decking has to be 300mm or less from the ground. I wondered if you had similar rules.

Will it be insulated? Clearly a must in our climate :smiling5:

Haha, I make better sandwiches, don't tell her I said so though.

Andy, the rules in NZ are pretty "fluid", I can build a structure of 30m2 with no permissions required, and only have to be 1m from the rear boundary, subject to a recession plane, and the distance of the neighbour buildings from the boundary, and as you can see in the pics, he has some pretty large trees on the boundary between us and his house is about 10m away from the boundary, the plots here are quite large.
To give you a great example of the silliness here, the neighbouring property has just completed a huge double story edifice that looks like a block of flats, which is raised 1.5m off the ground due to a requirement for new dwellings in our village as we have a very high ground-water table here, and are in a flood plane. Then he has built about 1.5m from the boundary with the other side neighbour, and as he is on the sun side the new build blocks all their neighbours light. However the council required that they gain approval from me for their build and I am about 30m away across 4 driveways. Probably because of possible future issues, he then bought the neighbours property, and put his son and his partner into it.
So as you can see, nobody really cares here, very fluid :smiling2:
Oh yes it will be insulated, we have very cold winters often -5C, so floor, wall and roof insulation, and double glazed and thermally broken windows and doors. The builder has a hard time with me regarding the construction as I am a retired construction project manager and very OTT, but he has been building stuff for me for about 5 years now, so we understand each other fortunately.
Cheers

Thanks for that Garry, it does sound more relaxed than here. Even just up the road in Scotland :tears-of-joy: the rules are more generous.

Looking forward to the rest of the build. Given your background I'm sure it'll make me very jealous lol

Well,as the Guys have said, that`s a cracking pad you`re getting assembled there ,
Such a shame to cover all of that lovely looking Timber eh!!
I`ll look out for your progress:thumb2:.

A very nice first class modelling shack, Garry, and the deck looks really inviting.

Thank you Andy, yes the timber looks great, but would be totally impractical from a cleanliness point of view, so it all has to be covered up.

Thanks Andrea, and I plan to enjoy that deck to the fullest as it will get both sun and shade :smiling:

Lee, it took me some time, but the penny eventually dropped on your suggestion, and I must say that sounds very appealing ;)
