Hello Gentlemen!

New to this forum and started model making.I have a keen interest in Military helicopters and going to attempt the above models....thus

i love how many people 'weather" their models.

Could you please give me a process in which i could weather the proposed matt Olive drab for the two models?

.I have not got a scooby doo( clue) on what i should use , where i can buy etc and mainly...........HOW TO DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!( ...scratching my head).....!

Help...a perfectionist in the making.....

I like to do a fair bit of weathering on most of my models. This process normally starts with looking at loads of pictures on line of both the real thing and other peoples models, after all they have probably researched the same subject to obtain their result.

So, the weathering really starts with the paint. pre-shading and post shading all help towards a weathered look. Post shading is very useful for making the paint look a bit faded. Search online for techniques.

Then, looking at the real thing, has the paint been chipped away along the edge of service / access panels ?

Then there's the dirt. I use promodeller wash, which I think has changed its name to flory. It's a good easy to used product. Many people make their own, but I like this stuff.

And after all that, I use some artists pastels. These I find the most useful. Just make sure you grt the dry chalky ones, not the oil based ones, you need to be able to make a powder out of the stuff and apply with a brush or some sort of make up applicator.

Whilst this isn't a very detailed answer, if you google the phrases used above all sorts of demonstrations and tutorials can be found on the web.

Hi Sandy and welcome to the forum. Have you looked at youtube under weathering theres plenty of footage on there and tips on the diferent types of weathering hope that helps

Weathering is not an easy process that you can do perfect first time.It takes a lot of practise and years of experience to achieve the results you see on some of the fantastic models built by members on this forum.Ive been making models on and off for years but am still learning.I use the Florymodels washes because if you over do it or dont like the results it can be washed off (as long as you put it on a gloss finish).

As Dave W says, you have apply the panel wash over a gloss coat (or good old floor polish called 'Klear') but the pastels work better on a matt coat.

So roughly speaking this is the order - paint - gloss coat - decals - (I use another gloss coat here, some don't) - panel wash (flory / promodeller) - matt coat - pastels, if you wish to use them. The decals need to go on a gloss coat anyway to avoid silvering.
