... mini-diorama showing squaddies about to land fidgeting with, or discarding their respirators...small landing craft internals (very basic in reality) perhaps? -, loads of potential for effects (water, vomit, equipment and 'human interest' in shed-loads ...Silly question.
All the sites I've looked at insist that all US soldiers wore a gas mask during the D-day invasion. Considering it was such a momentous occasion, how come nobody except Dragon make 1/35 figures with gas masks - despite the fact there are quite a few sets saying they are D-day figures?
I'm toying with the idea of doing summat for this GB and a small dio with figures seemed OK - but I don't like Dragon kits (too many parts!). I've even thought of trying to make a gas mask but I fear that's beyond my limited abilities.
I'm OK with the idea that soldiers would discard them once landed, but that means I can't show the actual landing. Doohh!
I imagine there would have been many embarking and disembarking drills prior to the actual landing. Keep the troops busy, its good for morale!!!t..
I reckon the second shot was taken a few days before
First shot, guy in the centre by the ramp, not wearing one……third shot, guys to the right do not have anything on their chins. Caption on second shot says LCT taken on 6th June. Follow up wave probably, but D Day, certainly. Shots were taken from the National WW2 museum, so I’d like to think they were accurately labelled….they are the black rubber pouches front and centre.
you can' see them in the first and third shot because they all have their backs to the camera.....

Really ... ?I imagine there would have been many embarking and disembarking drills prior to the actual landing. Keep the troops busy, its good for morale!!!
hmm, I took it to mean carrying them....First shot, guy in the centre by the ramp, not wearing one……third shot, guys to the right do not have anything on their chins. Dave asked if they were wearing them, not carrying them, by the way Neil……but I may have misunderstood what he meant.
Guy taking the picture must be on a stepladder. Fair drop to the beach there LOL…..good shot though.here are a whole load more-
pic taken in Weymouth on ,I believe, 4 June, so the real thing.
Genuine colour photo from the time as well, not colourized.
here they are
How many do you need Dave-I've collected a few for my LCVP dio-I can spare some
I guess that means it was:—The recipient of the only VC awarded on D Day
