Scale Model Shop

What did I agree to!

I'm finding this fascinating for such an old kit, what it has regarding detail, or doesn't have, how it goes together and such
The biggest surprise here, with the close-up pictures, is how understated the surface detail, compared to contemporary rivet-fests!

It is to be fair quite advanced in areas, like the flaps on the wings can move (although one is stiff and one just flaps in the wind) and the landing gear can be stowed and the doors closed behind them. However it all is a little creaky and cracks in noises so I'll fix them all in position with it going onto a base at somepoint. The rivet detail is quite good, but with the poor panel joins, some maybe lost unfortunately. Think this kit was designed for children to play with back in the day more than a static model.

Booth time (well for some parts anyway)

managed to black base then added some preshade with white, before a little green/yellow to try and add some variation.

and then the second stage of the camouflage

the owner to be has asked for a yellow stripe on the rear of the fuselage, and on the underside of the wings. i'll allow the top coat to dry before masking for this and move on to anotgher area of the build to keep thinks going.

It’s coming along very nicely Scott 👍

Good job on the masking, it must have taken a while.

Paint work is looking great too, your work colleague is going to be pleased.

Nice looking paint job. Pre shade appears to show well.
Thankyou, it looks better in the flesh. But part of me things maybe a bit more coming through may have looked better? Still learning so I'll try that on a kit going forward.

Cheers Geoff, yes it took some time but hopefully worth it when it's removed.

Fingers crossed he does, to be fair it's got to be better than the landfill he was sending it too.

Over the last week I decided to give the main body of the plane a rest and tackle the engines, as I'd noticed the flashing on these was pretty bad so a bit of work would be needed. I'll consider it a success if these come out ok

Cleaned up much better than anticipated , all primed up ready for paint

There they are two engines pulled from the brink, quite happy with how they have turned out.

Good job with the pre shade….adds a nice depth too the paint work. Engines looked a bit of a nightmare but seems you’ve wrestled them into submission 👍

Considering all the 'free plastic' you got, the engines turned out really well.
