What did I agree too!

Good evening all

A little progress on the JU88, with the kit being of an age there isn't a massive amount of detail in the mold to pull out with the airbrushing. Regardless a little preshading on the inside of the fuselage before blowing over with the top coat helped to lift it slightly. The seat and instrument cluster got a light weathering to pull out what detail there was. It was at this point I decided to install the cockpit towards the end of the build, reason for this is it only mounts on one side of the fuselage and there is to be machine guns added through the relevant canopies and glass. I'm a tad clumsy at the best of times so didn't hold much hope out for them still being there at the end, so with the canopy going on near the end not knocking the cockpit became an issue for me, so I left it out to enable blocking the fuselage holes easier. It does frustrate me painting the insides of kits, especially to seal it up and see minimal or sometimes nothing at all. Still has to be done so I can sleep at night 😁

ITS comin on well so far an love you build stand ATB SIR

Cheers Chris, it should go together relatively swiftly I think. It's quite a simple kit compared to modern stuff.

Yep the build stand is handy for larger kits or awkward shaped fuselages like this one till the wings go on

The dials on the control panel are an interesting feature
But is that all the cockpit contains, because there's a lot to see under that greenhouse
From the instructions and the kit contents it appears so mate yes, it's a shame really as there is room in there. Plus the guns through the canopies, they had plenty of opportunity to add additional features. All I can assume is it's due to the age of the kit and technologies back then, I know it was mentioned the kit was released again in 2007 but I assume it was still running the original format.

It's made me want to do another, but a more modern kit.

1:64 was S gauge (American Flyer) in model railroading where main plastic modeling scales came from in the US (1943 to postwar), 1:87 for HO (many makers), and 1:48 for O gauge (Lionel).
S gauge is 3/16 to the inch I think. Quite a niche scale in the UK, though current 28mm wargames figures are close to it.

Looking good and building up nicely, by the way.

The wings thankfully can slide on when finished so it should hopefully aid the painting process. canopies were then masked up and temporarily fitted ready for paint.

Masking went reasonably well considering the moldings on the clears weren't as established as newer kits are. I also had a front viewing window below the nose glass that was missing from the kit, I'd forgotten to photo what I did but Imanaged to make a glass from a medicine cup I had lying around. turns out the curve is near perfect for this part . It's always been an issue for me the canopy masking, it never seems to go well and I end up with some paint travel underneath, Fingers crossed on this one!
