What flew over your house (yesterday)

A couple of days ago I had my first CV-22 Osprey go over. It's a quiet bugger, would have missed it if I hadn't been out in the garden !

A north westerly direction, I wondered if it was going to Southport, but Ireland would be in the same direction from my house.

I had to look that one up - but what a sight.

I was going to say that is was a bit different to the usual "trade" I get, but I guess it's a bit different to just about everything else !!!

Seems manoeuvres are back in the swing on the pentland hills again .... Had a Chinook fly over last night, about 22.40 ... No warning lights, no spots on either.

Didn't hear gunfire so it wasnt wargames time.

Thinking about it ... It could have been transporting a VIP up north ... But it it was a single aircraft and most times they're flanked by a couple of lynx or some AH series doodab.

Had a E-3 Sentry over today. Didn't get too good a look at it but I presume it was an RAF one out of Waddington?

A Catalina PBY has just flown over here (nr. Chester) going in a N/W direction. It had a white hull/ fuselage with what looked like light grey wings...It could have been shadow with the sun directly above. No national markings as far as I could see.

Can anyone shed some light as to it's possible I.D. please? There can't be that many airworthy in the world, let alone flying around the N.W of England.

Cheers,

Ron

I think it is the one out of Duxford belonging to the Catalina Society Ron. G-PBYA civil reg also marked 433915 it also has the US star and bar along the fron of the frame and upper wing.

Cheers Terry, I knew one of my mates on here would know. I would love to have taken a photo, as it was going very slow and very low.....but sod's law, I was walking the dog...and no camera!

Thanks again for the reply.

Well I really doubt there was two in the air today. It flew over Weston near Stafford at about 1630 ish. It was the noise that caught my attention.

No problem Ron. I think hey call it sods law when stuff like that happens:D

Thanks Colin, that's about right, it flew over ours about an hour later and yes, the noise attracted me too.

Spent the day in the garden and got to see two today

Late morning and a Harvard heading south, nice bright yellow. Then this afternoon, as witnessed by Ron, a PBY 5. What a day!

In the last two weeks I've had two Westland apaches , two Westland linx hma 8 , one merlin and this wired looking thing with almost no sound it a helicopter but it has angles on it , I've seen it twice in the last twelve months

Yes that is the one that came to the Jersey B of Britain show a few years ago.

A lovely looking aircraft. They were taking passengers up for a spin around the island.

Built the Revell type in 1/48 and it is a nice aircraft to build.

Matter of interest it seems a large aircraft and it is. But the Merlin Helicopter I am building is fractionally longer than the Catalina.

A PBY was the first to spot the Japanese carriers and fleet approaching Midway which enabled the USA flat top aircraft to destroy all the Japanese aircraft carriers.

At cruise speed the PBY could stay in the air for about 20 hours.

Wonder it it's the same one that flew over Hull City Centre around 1-30, for the start of the Power Boat Racing on the Humber!
