What flew over your house (yesterday)

A C130 galaxy flew over house heading SE on Thursday - I live at Prestatyn. When I lived there as a lad (a very long time ago!!) I used to regularly see Vulcans flying the similar route, either SE or NW over the mountain near my house (there is/was a transponder on top of the mountain) - those were the days, and they probably had nukes on board as well!!

Spitfire and a Hurricane flew over the top of my house as i was on the computer at the time, the noise from the engines was deafening and very loud, it was a truly amazing site to be-hold, this happened in Nottingham where i live so i pressume they must have been at a show.

This happened at about 5.15 this evening, it was a lovely site and they looked lovely and sounded beautiful, they were flying side by side graciously, it probably will never happen again, but its something that i will remember!

Ive seen the odd Chinook fly over as well as a Dakota and a Spitfire, but to see these two together so close was fantastic.

They may well have been flying home from the Duxford airshow, living in the village as I do I've had a good afternoon of it. (was working all day Saturday but caught this afternoons flying) Have had 2 Vampire flying in formation...NICE!, a rather fetching looking Hawker Hunter (as seen in this months SAM), an F-15 the sound of which felt like it might blow in the windows, 3 P-40's (recently fell in love with after going to Flying Legends) and something like 6 Spit's and a hurricane......I do love living here.

Hi Moriarty

Sounds as if you have it made, i thought they must have been at an air show, it was fantastic hearing the mcome over the top of the house the noise alone was a delight, but for you it must be incredible.

Hi Tom

There is nothing better than the sound of a merlin roaring overhead. I get a reasonable view on airshow day's from the garden but it's nothing compared to actually being there. Having been to Flying Legends this year I'm totally hooked, definately going again next year.

Regards

Chris

Slightly belatedly, but a formation of four Apaches came over our office a while back, not long before they deployed to Libya. The Red Arrows sometimes practise round here as well.

Actually there is - a couple of years ago, I went to the local airshow at Elvington. The approach road led past the end of the runway and I came past just as "City of Lincoln" was spinning up. Four Merlins about two hundred yards from my car ...

Not exactly over my house, but I managed to get to the mentioned airshow at Duxford yesterday (which is only a short distance away), and it was truely a sight to behold. Seeing and hearing seven spitfires flying in a close diamond formation low over the airfield is probably something I'll never experience again, so was well worth it. Even without that, the Sally B going up and doing its passes over the crowds was impressive, and, as said, the F15 really did leave your ears ringing. Don't know what happened to the Lancaster though; it took off about an hour before the end of the show and disappeared over the horizon never to be seen again. Bit disappointed on that one ;)

Doing a bit of gardening the other week when a Eurofighter flew slowly over from east to west. Quite surprised really as I've never seen one outside an airshow.

I don't see much round here. We only have a small local airport, with only a few flights in and out. Pity really.

Apologies for dragging this thread up but 16 Tucanos flew over today. a wave of 3, followed by a single aircraft a few mins later followed again by a formation of 12. I've never seen as many aircraft of the same type flying in one go.

I live near Biggin Hill, so on Air Fair day there would be just about any plane you could think of. Sadly, it's gone now.

No need to apologise Michael, any sighting is of interets to most. But 16 Tucanos is very unusual.

Colin M..

A Starling flew over our house today. The cat got it. Wife rescued it. The Starling that is.

Laurie

Sorry very frivolous.

Haha does your cat have wings Laurie? ;)

So far today, I've seen a pair of Apache Longbows, 2 Chinooks & a Merlin - not bad for West London!

just mentioned this to my missus and she wondered if its anything to do with the 6 poor chaps that lost their lives recently.

a formation in a "6" as respect.

Most of what flies over our house are helicopters - apaches, police helicopter (bl**dy nuisence, especially at 3 o clock in the morning!!!!) air ambulance and coastguard!!!

Cheers, Andrew

I suspect as the weather is getting better, many of us will be outside more often and sightings will increase. Just a shame the RAF has so little to actually put in the air these days.

I was at the lakeside at Bowness last Tuesday and spotted a black Tucano flying the length of Windermere, the underwing markings were E2R and a white crown on the tail fin. Must have been prepared for the Jubilee celebrations, perhaps. On the Monday I saw two Tucanos over the hills, a Chinook and a C130 flying over Bowness! Most of the other stuff the RAF have is probably out in Afghanistan.
