What has Disappeared?

Flares
Tie-dye
Grandad shirts
Smelly afghan coats
Ben Shermans
Two tone tonic suits
Nylon shirts (shudder!)

And -
Manbags
Cravats
Pornstar moustaches
Peter Wyngarde...
(those of a nervous disposition should look away now)

What about the TV test card. That little girl playing noughts and crosses with the clown.

She's called Carol Hersee, she still has 'Bubbles the clown which she made herself from a kit

The BBC test card, known as Test Card F was designed by Miss Hersee’s father, George Hersee, a BBC engineer. Carol holds a world record that's unlikely ever to be broken, her image has been broadcast on television for more time than any other, that girl was on our screens for several hours everyday for over thirty years from 1967, that's over 70,000 hours, It was even reused by technicians briefly for calibration of BBC HD in the early 2000's

Miko (Carol's little sister Gillian was to be the test card girl but she had recently lost her front teeth)

Bonus fact, the X' on the noughts and crosses board represents the center of the screen

Sorry Ian, don’t agree with any of those. I can cite examples of the lack of them going right back to my young childhood. You can find them, or the lack of them, if you look in any age.
Well where I am I think they are sorely missed. I agree that it is, like most things mentioned not a new thing. I remember it also from my youth. But here, these days much more so.

Magic Brain - manual mechanical calculator with stylus.

Dave
Was Magic brain an update of Magic robot Dave? I had the robot one and simply couldn’t work out how it knew the answers. Magnets were involved, but I didn’t (still don’t to be honest) know how it worked.

Why does he have a pair of long nose pliers hanging from his belt?

You left out blokes with permed hair……

I’m more concerned that it’s cold enough for him to wear a neckerchief but not cold enough to wear a shirt……I supposed the pliers could be there to tighten his nuts in cold weather?

I only recently discovered that Charlie the cat in 'Charlie says. . . ' public information films was voiced by Kenny Everett!

Obvious once you know!

Miko (I miss the 70's, I don't want to live there but a holiday for a week or two might be nice)
My brother in law sampled Charlie the cat for a couple of songs on one of his ambient albums ;) As to visiting the seventies, we just had ten days without internet, so only had analogue devices and no phone. Just like living in the seventies without the appalling fashion sense and with better food. It was a bit boring to be honest :crying:

Funny you should say that - I tried to write a simple note and found my handwriting had deteriated badly - now back to practicint once a day.

Know what you mean. I gave up 'joined-up' writing years ago as it was totally unreadable - even I couldn't read it a week after I'd written it!

Funny, I hadn't noticed them before. I think they're actually garden snips, for when he's flower arranging.

I went from joined up to block capitals for the same reason Dave. The trigger was my boss pinning a note I left him to the notice board in our tea room with the comment “if anyone can read this can they tell me what it means”……and I couldn’t read it either……mind you, these days I can hardly read the block caps either…..
