with regard to Spitfires? I see there are so many different types, sizes and manufacturers available, is there any one model that gets the Oscar?

Tamiya 1:32 scale Mk IX or Mk VIII or now the Mk XVIe. I've built the IX and it is a superb model and I've read great things about the other versions now available. Be warned though, its NOT cheap!

If you cant afford the above,Tamiya's 1/48 Spitfire MK1 is the best kit ive come across.It only needs a set of seat belts adding to make a superb model.

I've just bought the ICM Spitfire XVI in 1/48 which seemed to get good reviews - anyone have any experience of this kit on here? Any pics? (Sorry for the potential thread hiijack but presume any responses will be of interest to the OP anyway :cheesygrin

I think Boldman hit the nail on the head. If you want a Spitfire that is well cast, full of detail and looks great when done, there is only one answer; Tamiya 1/32 spitfire any of the three. They're a bit expensive though.

Some of the 1/48 scale are also great kits. The tamiya again and also the ICM should be good.

The Tamiya 1/32 Spitfires are head and shoulders above the rest,absolutely in a class of their own. If you want a superb and accurate Spitfire then save up and buy one. Despite the detail they are so well engineered that they are easy to build. For example the way the engine and undercarriage attaches is brilliantly ingenious. I build mostly in 1/32 and have built enough "challenging" kits to know just how good the Tamiya Spitfires are.
