Well this was mine, my step daughter bought me this one for Christmas in 2003.

I was building an R/C Spitfire at the time & she thought I might like it, I think from start to finish it took me a day to build & paint, nothing fancy just OOTB stuff I can't even remember witch one it is, I think it's a Mk 5 in D-Day markings.

I new nothing about weathering till I joined this site.

It still has a place in my glass case as I haven't the heart to through it out.

What got me going again after many years (about 20) was a Tamiya 1/12 Tamiya Yamaha GP bike kit an old friend of mine bought or gave to me for Xmas about 3 - 4yrs ago. It's been "drop tested" and glued back together - it still remains on the shelf along with the other bikes that have built since then.

I took up the hobby again after a break of about10 years and built a Classic Airframes 1/48 Hudson.A limited run, multi media kit.Not the best kit to start with.I followed it with a1/48 Tamiya Beaufighter.Much easier to build.

That's a nice build John I like that :)

I got back into the hobby by accident, this old feller down the local an a really nice bloke , it was decided to do something for his birthday and as he had served in the Royal Navy we all chipped in and got him a model , he served on the HMS Ramilies during WWII but couldn't get that so we got the HMS Warspite, I built it and painted it and it was then I realised I was hooked

But this was my first build for myself

The DKM Tirpitz as with your John it's just painted but I'm rather pleased with the camo and how well it came out in free hand View attachment 94131

What model got me back into building?

The wife - and she's still as fit as ever!

Yes dear, I'm coming to mop the floor right now!

I got back because I watched Youtube video about scale modelling by accident then my interest came back. then bought a Tamiya kit and really proud with the end result.

This blooming starter set: http://www.scale-models.co.uk/community/threads/new-to-modelling-and-a-challenge-for-the-experienced-members.28223/

The irony being if I'd started with this: http://www.scale-models.co.uk/community/threads/airfix-starter-kits-theyre-watching.28484/

I'd have gone "Well that wasn't so hard, must have just been rubbish at it as a kid!" and that would have been the end of it, I'd never have joined here for help, nor carried on buying models to see what I could make out of them!

None not stopped since I started. Rather like my wife's chatting.

I stopped building models when i was about 17 due to me moving around with the RAF (Beer, women and motorbikes also played their part lol). I re-started again when i was about 33. My first kit I made when I came back into models was an Airfix 1/72 Lancaster B.III http://allynesmodels.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/here-are-older-kits-ive-done.html

I still have it to remind me of just how far my building and painting skills have come since I re-started

Built loads when I was a kid but I must have lost interest and didn't do any for years. About 20 years ago I had a bad motorbike crash and started painting citadel figures for something to do. I live in Bomber County (Lincolnshire) not far from RAF Coningsby so I'm fortunate to regularly see the BBMF fly over. My wife bought me the BBMF kit as a Xmas present a couple of years ago and it got me hooked. :)

What started me was going past the local toy etc. shop for the umpteenth time and eventually going in and asking "How much is a Spitfire". The seller was (is) an expert modeller and the rest is history.

Used to build loads as a kid. But got back into modelling building war hammer 40k kits for my son.

From 13 or so to 43 I built absolutely nothing! But my first kit 4 years ago was Tamiya's Tiger I late version - no longer with me, which is probably a good thing! ;)
