Mine is very much like Jim's, sure the basket doesn't touch the base .Tim has experience with these and may well say the parts should be suspended for cleaning .

Not a silly question Alexander. I used to put my lid down, but the hinges broke so now leave it off , still works fine.

I would keep the items off the bottom if you can, if only because the item being cleaned needs to be hit from all sides. Any part touching won’t be cleaned. You could also get abrasion from the high frequency vibration of the item against the container wall. I would run in short bursts, rearranging the kit a couple of times to ensure full coverage. As to the lid, I’d shut it if possible, but we used to run ours open most of the time. Mind you, we were usually sonicating liquids to disrupt cells in suspension, so used a completely different arrangement. When we were cleaning kit the arrangement was quite like this.

I reckon that for occasional use to clean the airbrush you only need one like THIS. It's big enough to fit the parts of an AB and has a plastic basket. I have had a very similar one for about 5 years and it has been fine.
