What's on the Bench 2025

The V3000S now has its body and wheels on….. IMG_2716.jpg
I’ve redone the swept areas on the windows as well. Much happier now.

Just need the load painting (been lazy, just using Value gear parts) and fitting, and the last details to add, and it will be finished. Next shots will be in the relevant “completed” section…..

Airfix 1/72 R.N.L.I. Shannon Class Lifeboat.

I'm not doing a detailed build for this, just the main stages.

About time I made me a boat/ship......

The kit needs a bit of 'Bling'. I usually build O.O.B., but as I was 'rescued' twice by these wonderful people during my sailing days, I intend to try and do the model justice.

Excellent, first time fit thus far.....

Brush painted with the supplied diddy acrylic pots of paint.

Left to right.
Glazed superstructure. The glazing is a one piece, nine windows affair which goes over the internal roof space. One nice snap-in, first time fit in the window frames.

Deck and cab seating. An all in one moulding. A bit sparse internally, but not much will be seen.

The hull. Excellent two piece moulding.

Next, I'll stick the three elements together.

Cheers.

Paul, nice to have you along for the ride.

Initially, I was a bit disappointed by the very sparse interior. Compared with Airfix's 1/72 Severn Lifeboat interior, this boat doesn't come close. But as not much will be seen through the windows, I can live with it and hopefully, still enjoy the build.

Tim, thanks for the input.
Whenever we can and if close enough, my wife and I always visit the local RNLI Boathouse/shops.
We take time to marvel at just how well built and strong these vessels are. You can see why they cost so much to produce and quite right to. They have to keep the brave folks who man them as safe as possible......

Cheers.

Absolutely agree Ron. Here is one of the most inspiring stories I know….

PS, my mum was from Hastings and some of her extended family were lifeboat crew…..

Thanks Tim. Nice family connection and also an interesting and very tragic story. Thanks for sharing....

Update.
Guardrails, hand rails, anchor and life buoys fitted. This is the stage that lets the kit down. The grey mid-ship rails are not solid but are stainless wire. I had thought to alter these but decided to leave alone, because if I didn't tell anyone, no one would be any the wiser. Wink, wink!

Evening everyone, it's been a while, over a year in fact.

By the looks of it there's been a bit of a shake up.

Whilst I haven't had much internet time, I've had some bench time now & then.

I think the last thing I had started was the M32 ARV. I lost my way with it and that probably led to my absence TBH.

Next out of the gate after a break was the Tamiya SdKfz 251 I got from AlanG who I understand is no longer amongst us. I bought a bit of PE to help it along.

I then had a bash at the ICM G506. I decided to do an experiment in civilian paint jobs as I plan to de-militarize my real one.

Having decided that the last version is the the winner, I proceeded to let the years take their toll

My current project is one I've had for over 30 years and never started. I'm quite enjoying it and will post pics in the correct place once it's done.

Please excuse the massive photo dump, I don't get out much.

I hope you're all bearing up,

thank you for looking,

Dan

Thank you folks, I've just been out in the shed adding a bit more rot. I'll post it up in the competed sometime before Easter...

minitnkr, it's a 59, but I haven't added all the shiny junk to the fins yet so fair call. It's taking a bit of research to find out which bits were chrome & which bits were aluminium or stainless. I think I've sussed it now.
