Just curious what scale people prefer, I was looking at stocking some of the smaller stuff, 1/72 but wasn't sure if there was much call for it, I know that 1/72 is good if your short of space (I'm wondering where I am going to put Lusty when she's finished and I haven't even go it yet) and it's not that good if like me the old eye's aren't as good as they used to be.

It's just the main 3 scales I am going to put in the poll, I know there's lots more but I would class 1/72, 1/32(35) & 1/48 the most common, ok I guess 4.

Definitely 1:48 for me. I love this scale for aircraft and armour but I do have to admit that there are some stunning 1:72 out there.

I'm actually upgrading from 1/72 into 1/48 for all my bombers and fighters (if possible) and 1/32 for my fighters of special interest. The main reason i have to admit is the frustration with working with things so small on 1/72 and i also find it isn't challenging trying out new techniques. I'll still have a few 1/72 kits in my stash as some of them like the B-29 are big enough at that scale as it is lol

I'm just venturing into the world of 1/35 armour. Now that's a whole different kettle of fish.

Blimey this is a tough one, but i will answer as best i can so here goes.

At the moment i like 1/35 th scale armour and vehicles. Ita a nice easy scale to work with. I also like 1/48 scale armour and vehicles. The advantage of 1/48 being it takes up less room. I believe that the armour and vehicle market in the 1/48 scale range will grow. Same with figures in this scale.

For the future i really want to get into aircraft and tanks....for the aircraft the main scale for me will be 1/48 scale....for the tanks it will be 1/35 scale.

So i guess the answer for me is 1/35 and 1/48. Hope this helps, regards Martin :-)

Should add that as i can only vote for one scale ive opted for 1/48... reason being there is a great selection of aircraft in this range and i can live with the 1/48 scale range of tanks :-)

I'll have a go at anything but 1/32 is my real favourite for my WW2 fighters. I think it may have something to do with age! You know ,the old peepers start to get a bit iffy and handling tiny parts more dicey. I also like the detail, even I can add a bit of wiring or a brake pipe at this scale.

Cheers

Steve

For aircraft i like 1/48 nice size and lots of detail although i have been dabbling in 1/24 recently , but for armour it's got to be 1/35 all the way.

For me 1/35 armour and 1/48 aircraft. Having said that I would like to do a large 1/72 diorama at some stage.

1:48 for me in Armour and thats only because running out of space, but when my daughter has gone to university then it back to 1:35 scale cause i'm having her bedroom.

Have fun, John

i love 1/35th, cos i love the size, but for aircraft i really like 1/48. though, a 1/32-35 train is just AWSOME, cos of its pure size!

Like so many others I have to say 1/48 for aircraft, and 1/35 for the heavy metal. Having said that I can see that the choice of armour in 1/48 is growing at a stedy rate...

Has to be 1/32 for aircraft and 1/35 vehicles, only because they don't come in 1/32 though.

It's my age and rugby players hands!!

Can you get 1/32 to order john?

I should be able to get anything you want to order.

So far I think my idea of stocking 1/72 is pretty much a no go, this is really useful info

Don't you guys find it a bit odd that no-one's voted for 1/72 yet there's LOADS of builds in that scale on the forum?

This is true, and i prefer 1:48 scale for space but at the moment i'm working on a 1:72 scale Hurricane. Plus i have some 1:72 (and 1:76) in my stash. For me 1:72 scale is like a MilkyWay, a model you can do between models lol.

Have fun, John

Can I be a pain I agree with most that 1/48 is a convenient and great scale for armour and planes but bikes are 1/12 cars 1/24 ( pssst I like building 1/144 planes) but seriously my vote is 1/48. just think of my B2 in that scale? Nooooo 1m going for a rest in a quiet room.

Cheers Gareth.

As I no longer have space for 1/32, I alternate between 1/48 and 1/72. Again the 1/72 is for space saving. Cheers Derek

Because John asked us for our prefered scale I ticked the 1/35 box, however I like to build 1/72 as it is quick and easily repainted should you desire a change of colour scheme, cammo ect. and there are some very good, reasonably priced kits in this small scale.

I suggest the reason no one as yet has voted for 1/72 is although it is popular, it would not be their first choice scale.

From reading this thread it seems to me that people like to build in all sorts of scale depending on the subject.

I thought that when our youngest daughter moved out. Now we have a beautiful spare bedroom and SWMBO has a well appointed office in the other one's old room. I build my models in the front room and spray in the utility room!!

I do however most definitely have fun.

I do like to build most of my aircraft in 1/32 and there is more and more available in this scale. That's how I voted. I do however build large aircraft (Lancaster,B-17) in 1/48 and have even had a bash at 1/72 as in the BOB memorial flight or my go at a desert dio. The little'uns wouldn't be my first choice. How some of you do 1/144 (that'll be you Tony) I have no idea.

Cheers

Steve
