Come to a halt at the moment. Time out

Moved in to our flat 18 months ago and in a mad rush got a work place and model display shelves together then added then added and then it looked a mess especially as it is in a dedicated (laugh :D :D :D) second bedroom.

Got a bed which fold up against the wall. Hope we never have visitors .

So giving a total make over.

Got any new bright ideas I could use ? Please . Then I will give you, hopefully, some I have come up with. Hope.

use a chest of drawers to keep all your stuff in, that way it still looks a bit like a bedroom but all your stuff is hidden away, yet organised

ive got a surplus dining table as a bench, along wih a matching surplus chair, up against the wall

get some ikea display cabinets, dont take up much room

think about light.....ive got spotlights on the ceiling which point over my shoulder, yet i still crave more light (next little project)

We've just moved to a bigger house, I've got a desk and 2 heavy (very!) wooden filing cabinets (from Gumtree), dining room...nope MANCAVE!! All my stuff stored, lighting comes from 2 desk lamps from Argos. Sorted!

Been there, done that! I really do feel for you. It's not the best experience to go through...unless your Si (eddiesolo), he volunteered for the shed :D ...He is mad!

I told you everything in Australia is out to kill you ;) Are you breeding panthers or something Monica?

Laurie - Lights, what ever you do to your room, just install loads of 'daylight' style lights.

Joe cats are the most vicious animal there is big and small.

We have always had cats the majority not liking me as I had a hate complex about being bitten. We had a Burmese a very small cat but jolly vicious if you upset her. Presents of large rabbits were presented regularly. Rather kind hearted though she always left a dead mouse in one or either of the dog's basket.

She used to sit on the open on the half landing and as I went by on the ground floor a paw would suddenly strike me on the head or face. Darling little cat you were Honey o_O

I was thinking of either buying or making an old fashioned writing desk. Loads of small draws and cubbyholes to put things and when it needs to look 'tidy' just close the desk flap up.

Cats. got to love the sadistic little fur balls. I find the entertainment value far out weighs the old scratch or 'playful' bite.

My main idea Ian is to keep the worktop as free as possible. On the rear wall of the worktop I will have two shelves 9" deep within easy arm reach. On these I plan to have cake turntables (things used when airbrushing to turn the model around). Load this up with glues fillers etc. and revolve to get what ever you are after.

Knives tweezers pliers grips panel line scribes etc etc. all a pest. So will place on sliding drawer runners ply base under the work top to make a sliding tray. Cover with a non slip base. 2 of these one on left with usual stuff (left handed). On the Right all the not used stuff. On the work top cutting mats brushes each type segregated into jam jars same with sanding files. These all on cake turntables etc. Just hope all that works.

Yes cats are fun Ian but dogs are down right stupid. Except our first Labrador could grab a door handle pull down then pull the door open. Eat two pounds of cheese from the kitchen top. Same with a chicken frozen and still in its plastic wrapper. German Shepherd would grab the wheel on the lawn mower and run with it with me on the end. Also trapped a window cleaner up his ladder and his mate had to get Pauline to rescue him. Fact was the children used to play on a climbing frame and the GSD thought it a game to trap the window cleaner. Last Magic a Labrador (came from sister island Guernsey, great mistake explained all) eat half a large bag of dry food in the night and then during her morning walk on the gold course deposited the lot on the 18th. Oh my God so embarrassing. GSD whipped the ball off the tee as the golf club was swinging down. Golfer fell about laughing.

I once saw a picture of a workstation in a wardrobe. When you opened up the doors there was a work top built into it, lighting above etc.. and all the shelves around were used for the storage of materials and tools etc. Everything was to hand and when the doors were closed it looked just like a normal wardrobe.

I guess creative ideas are required when you are short of space. I've used writing desks a few times in the past, they really do seem to fit the bill very well.

When I was a teenager I had an old chest of drawers in the cellar. I had to stand up at it. Funnily enough it never bothered me then!

Hate cats, love dogs. Everybody is different I guess!

We have two rescue cross breeds, I swear one of them is a Meerkat crossed with a Whippet!

Yes well you are lucky Richard.

We had a mad Guernsey Labrador living with a very sane Jersey family of six. Sadly, and she was a mad as a hatter, she has gone but I used to fall about laughing at her antics. Not sure what type of people are in Guernsey but Magic the Labrador used to fall on her back as soon as she met a male dog of any species and size. Even more crazy we paid money for her. Gee, thinking about it, these Guernsey people are not so daft after all.

Used to have a couple of labs when in England. Superb dogs. Yes they could be a totally mad at times and did some very silly things. But one word and they sat at your side and awaited further instructions. Best of all if someone came to the door, or into the back garden, they would bark like mad until you told them to stop. Best alarm ever.

I still stand up to spray....models that is, I'm not a cat :)

I do sit down for most other model building tasks.

Someone mentioned 'daylight' lamps which is a very good idea. I'm lucky enough to get plenty of natural light where I work but otherwise I would certainly invest in some artificial daylight.

Cheers

Yes Steve I used to always stand up to to airbrush. For some reason, though reluctant, now living in a flat I sit down as it seemed more appropriate. why no logical eason what so ever. But I have found that this gives me more control especially as I am looking sideways where the spray comes from and not on top.

Cats spraying not heard of that one
