Yaks century series in 1/48 part 6 - the F106 Delta Dart

After a little bit of detail painting , picking out boxes , hydraulic hoses etc the weapons bay has had a dark wash , all ready for the missiles. The undercarriage doors have also been painted and just need the springs touching up . The kit supplies four Falcon missiles and one Genie . The Genie was a nuclear tipped unguided air to air missile intended for use against enemy bomber streams ,a scary prospect indeed . The missile bay would be a bit crowded if you fit them all so i’m just going to use the falcons . 
This is now moving a bit faster . The whole airframe has had a rub with some ultra fine wet and dry sponge which rubs off the paint on the raised panel lines and highlights them nicely , plus it gives the aircraft a slightly used look . This was followed by a couple of coats of satin varnish yo even everything out. The complicated undercarriage has been fitted and a fair bit of details picked out and small parts added . Next up will be fitting the missiles and weapons bay doors .

Got the cockpit unmasked today and looked at getting the missiles sorted . The F106 usually carried four falcons , two AIM 4 F radar homing and two AIM 4 G infra red heat seeking . The kit missiles are all identical so I had to sand off the end of two ,paint dark blue and add a blob of Kristal Kleer to simulate the clear nose of the IR version .
Theyre all painted decalled and fitted now . Next step is fitting the missile bay doors .

Bay doors now on and the drop tanks fitted . The nav light on top of the fuselage is supplied as a clear part and the kit instructions dont mention any colour , however looking at many photos it is red so out came the nail art jewels and one was fitted in place . Last jobs now are fitting the canopy and the pitot on the nose . The kit supplied a red and white stripe decal to be wrapped around the pitot in a spiral but it would have been a nightmare to get right so I just painted it .
Not far to go now Tony, looks sublime 
Well here it is finally done . The last few bits have been added ( pitot , canopy ) and my six part century series odyssey is finished . I started this back in April 2016 so nine and a half years ago!!! Only problem is the other five builds are still on the forum but were from the previous server so the photos cant be seen other than a tiny thumbnail. I’ll have to take pics of all of them again so I can have a group comparison , but that might have to wait for a nice sunny day so I can have them all together . In the meantime heres a final pic of the F106 , I’ll be putting a full completed set on later , thanks to all who’ve bern watching . 
Will seek out the completed build thread Tony. Will be great to see the Century Series all together for a family shoot.
