well today i got up nice and early to go to work as in the school holidays we start and finish and hour early.

I got into work and the other chef on duty looked a bit puzzled. i asked "am i not ment to be in for another hour?" to which he replied..."no, your not ment to be in at all...you booked it off" so basically they screwed it up and booked me off this weekend instead of next for Cosford. i dont know if they will be able to give it me off though and also problems with my girlfriends dad's health are looking like they will stop me going as well.

i got home and luckely i came on here instead of ringing Nigel straight away like i was going to. Even though i never met this great guy i felt like i knew him very well, as im sure most other people who have been here a while do. It felt like (to quote John) "i had been hit with a brick"

i could not really get in the mood to do any modeling so i sat down and watched poor saturday night tv with my parents....something i have not done in a long while!

then obviously when i was going to go to bed i felt like doing some more on my F-16. murpheys law all over again.

A busy day on Saturday

Hello all, well i had a busy day yesterday. No modelling on the small scale stuff for me No No No. My brother is a joiner and had asked me if i could give him a couple of hours help to construct some shelves for a pal of his. These were pre-fabricated by my bro who is extremely meticulous in his preparation of these jobs. Got on site and unloaded the 15 shelves and attendant support frames. Looked into the room which is now empty and realised the floor was off by 4" from one end to other £$£%%^ was the comment. :smile11:

Nothing for it as we were committed to putting these in, every upright support had to be cut to length working off of a datum line projected around the room above head height!. Also as an added enjoyment the walls were not square either and a little bit of leeway which had been allowed for in the sizes was still not enough! Finally after 7 hours the 2 hour job was done. :dancing1: Came home and had a well deserved rest. After dinner last night I viewed the forums and was shocked to learn of Nigels death. This put me into a state of numbness and as has been posted elsewhere our sincere condolences have been expreessed to his family.

Looked forward to flying in calm weather at our Sunday site. Calm? well the forecasters said "0 wind", we got 15mph gusting 20mph. Still twas in right direction for stability, cold tho'. Home and skived again, retired is the "bees knee's". Now where did that expression come from?

Most of the day was spent sorting out my SBS-1 radar box,fitted the external antennae to the drainpipe and now I can pull in as far as Lydd and further to the North in Prestwick,this really is a neat piece of kit as you follow the aircraft trails across the country,the device logs altitude,speed,the Hex code and the airline,I have now learned how to tweak it for best performance and tomorrow experiment with some new Firmware to upgrade it.

Now the nights are drawing in it is time to think about indoor activities and perhaps organise the indoor den,it is amazing how things get pushed from here to there and then you have a job finding them ?

Anyway plenty to think about and to do,what a week this has been.

A really quiet day on Sunday, this is the first one that I can remember where we were able to sit down and read, a broadsheet and all of its attendant supplements, all the way through without many interruptions from the children :grinball2: It was the last day of the school holidays and a beautiful day too where all they wanted to do was play outside with their pals :dancing1: Got caught up on the household chores in the evening while my good lady watched "Prime Suspect". Why anyone would want to waste a good few hours in front of the goggle box I really cannot comprehend. Monday what an effort to get out of bed! Got to work on time and wished I'd slept in. opproblems with e-mails / computers / printers / fax machines... you name it there were problems. A good enough day for business and came home tired. Will be looking forward to a couple of hours in th eworkshop tonight , that is why an early check on the forums to see what is going on.

A good monday, because its my half term week, but im afraid i'm not going to get much modeling done, as GCSE coursework for french is getting me down. But im working on the schwimmwagen and the messerschmitt. the dornier i'm going to restart in a few days.

Well today i had family visiting making sure we were alright. I then done some sorting out looking at things. Playing with the kids just like my dad did. I planned to get my dads tank out and play with it with Michael just like dad but it has been raining all day. I came on here to see all these wonderful people showing their appreciation

Did some fixing to the broken in two Flair Passion, epoxy slow as garage not warm, then went and cut the grass ---IN OCTOBER--- back to do more fixing. Couple more hours work should see it flyable. Some housework, not a lot, dont want to spoil her fun. More skive, retired is wonderful.

woke up, saw i had two patches, one of which was pure luck i cam accross as its very rare and i had been looking for it for aaages (RNLAF Solo Display 2004 Team pilots patch) and the 35th TFS patch. so scanned them in and added to my collection.

rang my girlfriend (lucky as she wasnt up yet and had work in an hours time) Pretty much just been working on the F-16 all day...still am now (its soo good using laquers and having a curing time of about 15mins lol)

will ring girlfriend again soon to see how her day at work was and get some shut eye.

Woke up to the postman with a big package from Bunkers,he kindly sends me an American magazine after he has read it,together with some battery packs which I am going to check over for him to see if I can re-cycle them.

Went out to get a loaf of bread and came back with the weeks shopping ! usual thing you see somnething and then something else and before long you have bought the shop.

Decided that the position of the SBS antennae could be improved,so with the aid of some old caravan awning poles rigged up a mighty fine antennae on top of which fits the yagi,made up some brackets in a cold workshop and bolted it to a small shed we use for storage etc,as the antennae was too close to the pole I knocked up some plastic insulators from round hollow stock scavanged from something else and thrown into 'well it may come in handy one day' box.

Checked it out and it is working beautifully pulling in signals from around 250 miles away,so the extra work was well worth it.

I know what you mean about the growth of the grass,the same here,it needs an haircut,the seasons are well and truly out of balance.

Have you ever fiddled with a pair of binoculars ? well I did today following my pair of Russian jobbies going very tight in the centre adjustment bar,so it was time to take a look at them,I spread a clean towel on the bench and started to dismantle the screws and gizmo's ( great engineering term that one which Bunkers will be familiar with ! ) well they probably have specialist names but they are just binoculars to me,the problem appeared to lie in the screwed rod at the centre of the two optics so out came the very long screws and tiny special washers,this separated the binos with two arms sticking out either side which appeared to have jammed up,so off they came after wrestling with poor slotted screw heads,why they had not used allen keys I just do not know ? anyway after a bit of a struggle they finally parted company,it was at this stage that it was evident that there was dirt and dust that had migrated down the barrell,to deal with this I rolled up a piece of lint free cloth and twirled it down the barrell ( see another technical term used there-Twirl ) after removing half of Warwick I could then see black paint so it was time to stop,next I placed my attention on the centre adjuster,once again very dirty with years of use,dirty hands and leaving them at readiness to grab should interesting aircraft and birds fly over,this time I grabbed a brush and some turps and swished it around ( see another one 'Swished' ) boy we are learning things tonight ! there appeared to be some freedom now in the centre,a bit different from before,so it was time to carefully re-assemble the whole lot again in reverse,easier said than done these Russians must have four pairs of hands in order to hold everything together,but with a bit of grunting and wrestling it eventually started to take shape,after moving the lens pieces back and forth everything seemed ok.

So apart from a few other things that occupied the biggest part of my day,the result a pair of binoculars that work once again.
