True words.Ive been a carer for my wife since 2010.We manage but yes we need time to ourselves.I have my models and love my nature walks.I have a little beach i go to at Walton on the Naze.I call it Echo beach and very zen to sit on the sand on a warm day and drift

Whole new world for me……bought a few Zinnfiguren flat figures off of eBay….I blame the book



They are quite detailed seen up close….


…and they really, really, are flat…..


Those were ACW artillerymen.

These were a job lot of odds and sods for practice….no idea what any of them are. Looks like various ancients, a Norman, and some Napoleonic cavalry. Bit of research needed I think.

I thought the card included by the vendor was a lovely touch.

These will be started when I’ve got my current projects out of the way….l

Yep, I thought so…..they also seem small Paul…..though weirdly they are actually bigger than the figures I usually paint…..I think they are going to teach me a lot about shadows and highlights as well.

Snap! Looks very good and so tempting to get it straight onto the bench, however it won't fit any more 'In progresses'. It looks as if there are plenty of sub-assemblies to assist with planning the build, I may hold off until a mask set becomes available.

I'll look forward to those Tim. I suppose the same techniques used in figure painting work for these although will you have to exaggerate shadows and highlights to compensate for the lack of 3D.

Hi Jim.
They are a little like normal 3D round figures, but with some noticeable differences. With rounds you exaggerate the shape of the figure with shade and highlights etc, but that’s all. With flats you have to emphasise that aspect more, but also have to add in the requirements of cast shadows and so be more precise about light direction. Really not sure if I can pull that off, but it will be very interesting to find out.

Not sure my techniques (such as they are) apart from brush control will be much use here. They certainly won’t take washes and dry brushing, which I use a fair bit. These are much closer to actual picture painting, though with slightly emphasised contours. Looking forward to the challenge though…….

Went in to my nearest Hobby Craft shop this morning, just to have a browse to see what sort of gear they have, came out a with a full carrier bag full!
Never really looked around a Hobby Craft shop before, they have some good stuff, paints, brushes, adhesives, card, foam, even model kits!
I am considering a diorama of some sort, so got some foam board, PVA glue, plus some of the kits they had would be very useful for a diorama, eg: bricks, oil drums, sand bags, etc. And cheap too.....

New toy arrived

One of those rechargable air brush jobbies

Was only 37 quid so we shall see how it goes......not as if ive spent a small fortune on an Iwata or H&S

The airbrush itself dont look too bad....double action and unscrewable cup....2 bigger ones in the box

I've seen these all in one airbrushes on YouTube and some have been well thought of. It will be interesting to see what you think of it. As you say at that price you've nothing to lose.
