Sadly I’ve just received an email back from Ron’s wife,

It's Justine here, Ron's wife. I'm so pleased that you wrote, as I couldn't find the forum when I had a quick look. I knew that Dave and Ron shared a birthday so I wanted to access the forum with the password Ron left me. I had a quick look before and on the 13th but didn't seem to find the correct one.

I'm not sure whether other members were aware that Ron was fighting cancer over the last two years. I'm very sorry to say that he deteriorated towards Christmas and in the New Year, he was told that he'd be referred to palliative care so that we could keep him here at home. At the beginning of the year he said he hoped he'd reach his birthday. It seemed doubtful that he would but we kept reminding him of how long it was until 13th March. He managed to do it ..... slipping away peacefully just after 9 am on the day!

Please let the forum members know, especially Dave and Tony. My own email address is (PM me for email address) Ron made many friends via the forum, online and in person. I have happy memories of going with Ron to RAF Cosford and meeting 'the lads'. I have his den full of dioramas, model kits and what seems like hundreds of tins of paint! I was only saying yesterday to a grandson that I'd have another search for the forum. After the grandsons have had their pick, I'd love to pass some of these kits etc on to forum members if anyone wants them.

RIP Ron, you will be missed.

Rest in peace Ron. You have been and always will be sorely missed.
My deepest condolences to Justine and their family.

So sad to hear this , Ron was a great friend and invaluable member of the forum . He informed me of his health problems a good while back but asked me to keep it quiet - he didnt want it to be a worry . I messaged him after xmas but didnt receive a reply so thought something wasnt right . Absolutely gutted , a dear mate and a lovely bloke , and always hilarious . RIP matey from your old mucker

Very sad news. Rest in peace Ron.

An amazing modeller from which I learned so much, and also a great character that reached out to me during a particularly dark episode to lend a supportive ear.

You will forever be known in my house as "rice crispy man" as the whole family were blown away by what you did with mundane household items.

A huge loss, his humor & skills will be sorely missed.

RIP Ron, you are going to be missed, always made me smile

I think another Memorial GB is in order, chaps
Yes indeed. Can I suggest a dio that must include at least one of Ron's non-modelling materials - cereal, pizza bases, garage sweepings, garden plants etc. And aircraft in flight of course - assuming that you can find a suitable 'chucker'!

Add in brush-paint-only and it sounds like the perfect tribute!

Very sad news. Ron's humour, as well as his modelling skill, will be much missed. Condolences to Justine and the rest of the family.
