Neil's 1-35 Liberty Ship Diorama

Glad to see this again. Really admire your ability to adapt/alter the figures. This is certainly up there with the best dios I've seen.

Sometimes I kid myself and I start to think that I'm not too bad at this modelling lark, but then someone comes along with something like this, and then I realise that actually I'm just a bloody amateur!!! Lol, Amazing build and detail.....

Stunning work as always neil , its a mind blowing job youre doing . Great reworking of the figures , although at the moment the driver looks like Bender from Futurama !
Keep at it , its going to look superb . Cheers tony

Thanks everyone.
So I had given this guy a nice Hornet smiling face
IMG_20260806_204146168_HDR.webp
But what is he smiling at? My original idea was somebody in trouble on the cargo net, but you can’t really see the smile with his face turned away, so I turned his head and gave him an unfortunate GI who doesn’t have his sea legs
IMG_20260811_103657235_HDR.webp
Then I thought of the others with the the same problem ,what if he’s knocked over by the guy behind him?
IMG_20260812_100259387_HDR.webp
So now I’m on a roll, and I’ve always intended this Tamiya guy to be holding on to the landing craft side
IMG_20260812_100423715.webp
But he’s holding on with his left hand so he has to either face away from us or go on the port side
IMG_20260812_100913825_HDR.webp
But I wanted someone behind our second GI who’s managed to hold on in time, so I found another suitable pair of legs and a shouty Hornet head and came up with this
IMG_20260812_100522916_HDR.webp
And so we now have a nice little incident
IMG_20260811_160329120_HDR.webp

IMG_20260811_160309263_HDR.webp

I’m not going to put too many more figures in the landing craft because they will obscure all my hard work on the detritus and weathering
Then I moved the Coast Guard out of the way to open up the composition a bit, and which also shows off his smile better
IMG_20260812_102449534_HDR.webp
So now it’s time break out the MagicSculpt, and I've got eight more figures to paint - and after such a long lay-off I'm up for it!

Thanks to everyone for following and commenting.
The landing craft crew are ready to paint.
So much for taking the ‘short cut’ of using the life-jacketed figures I had - once I got into the detail all of the life jackets needed improvements.
So lets start with the driver. Here he is originally

IMG_20260806_204317274_HDR.webp

And this is how he has turned out

IMG_20260829_144626442.webpIMG_20260829_144651742.webp

Originally I had used larger scale hands to represent the gloves, but I wasn’t happy so I tried digitally modifying some 3D printed hands I have and that's what I have used here and on the next guy. And I KNOW his arms look a bit too long from some angles but they look fine from others, so I will see how badly they irritate me before I do anything about them.
Here’s the gunner having a smoke

He’s not wounded, it’s just the colour of the wine bottle foil that ran with the IPA I used to blend the MagicSculpt.

The rest in a separate post as I have too many pics

To add some variety this guy is wearing the navy blue deck jacket which has interesting toggle fasteners

And is why I changed his arms.

And here’s our laughing guy with the rope,

Both the resin figures are sculpted with their life jackets open for some reason so I stayed with it but added retaining straps which presumably had not survived the casting process. The work gloves on these guys are from some 3D files of workmen I downloaded.
I have also discovered that not all 1-35 scale M1 helmets are the same size...

And here they all are together, ready for the brushes

So thanks again to everyone for following and commenting, and I will be painting these before I do any more work on the GI’s

Your attention to detail is insane! This is gonna be an epic piece of work once done. Great to see my friend
