Just my thoughts here,
But how come someone suggests, and is prepared to host,a GB..
,....BUT is so fed up with others trying to change it,and introduce other elements, that they give up?!!
... It's already cost one to bow out,and I suspect that Karl is probably getting quite cheesed off too?!!
Surely, you just say "yes" or "no" if you wanna join in?!...
.......Otherwise just suggest your own!!

You're obviously underestimating my patience levels.........
Yes I can see what happened with the Airfix one, but I see nothing like that in my suggested GB.
And if you noticed when asked if a certain subject could be done even after initially saying no I discovered that there was a good case to include it, provided the right markings were found as it's an interesting bit of history.

Fair comment Karl.... and hat`s off to you :thumb2:
I just meant that, when someone suggests a GB,it should be more or less a "Yep,i`m In" or "No thanks".... so the GB goes ,or not, with that:thumb2:,......
....... not a massive debate about,"What if we change this, add this, include somfin else"?!!
As i said,it was just my personal thoughts,it just seemed that the essence of a proposed GB had been lost somewhat?!

I’m wondering coming back and posting here on this forum was a wise choice on my part this place is changing every day.

Stick with it mate otherwise all your worst imaginings will come to pass - everybody is an agent for change no matter what, in your case for the positive!

I've run a couple of G.B's on here.
The main thing is to have a think and get the Title and Rules clear and concise before posting.
This leaves little or no room for smart ar*es to come along writing "But if....." etc.

Be strict about the rules. Sorry, NO..... YES, of course. NO exceptions or alterations.

It is the right of the thread main man to rule and keep in order the participants. If anyone doesn't like anything about the G.B., tough, don't get involved!

Lee, change is inevitable, that's life. Sometimes it's not for the better.

For me, the forum is sometimes too manic and fast moving. Also, no time to have a good chat about builds, as it was only a few years back. It's just like, like, and more likes........ But hey ho!

It's still great to be part of such a friendly model making community.

So I say, stay put and continue with your great input. Perhaps one day it will all calm down.

It seems to me that people are taking things far too seriously................ I haven't followed the arguments discussions about GB subjects, but what's the problem? This is an entirely informally Forum based group & no need for squabbling over rules. I don't like the trend of threatening to leave, just because things don't suit you! Do what I do - ignore the comments you don't like & concentrate on the modelmaking.
I would suggest that all combatants take a step back, and take deep breath................
Dave

I've only been here for eighteen months, so perhaps I'm ignorant of former times when the forum was (even) better than it is now. And I entirely missed the issues around the original suggested GB (now replaced with something similar).

But I've got to say this place is wonderful! Just go look at all the love being shared with our pyromaniac in chief as he suffers a dairy-induced discombobulation - that's completely genuine concern from many of us towards a pal. Nothing to do with modelmaking, just a dollop of sincere fellow-feeling. For me, that's a lovely thing to be part of.

Of course there'll be the occasional disagreement, but even then they are nearly always dealt with intelligently by all parties. I think most times it's the imperfection inherent in social media that causes these flare-ups (the squabbles, not JR's lactose intolerance) - so easy to misread what others write, or mis-write what we are trying to say.

My approach is: think positively, focus on the massive amount of positivity on here, work hard to generate positive content that builds on what you like about the forum and, as Dave says, ignore as best you can the stuff you don't like.

That way the bad stuff withers on the vine, and the good stuff flourishes. And long may that continue!

Totally agree Paul. When it comes down to it, all we do is stick plastic together and throw paint at it. Hardly life and death stuff. No point in getting bent out of shape about something so trivial. Enjoy the camaraderie and banter provided here and treat the rest with the seriousness it deserves.

I'm with you too Paul. I've only been here 11 months and am loving the vibe. The encouragement from other modellers is excellent and there is lots of fun to be had too.

As is life, there are bound to be some glitches and disagreements along the way, but I don't ont ser this as being a problem at all pm this forum.

Well said my friend the band of brothers here is strong always was I don’t think that will change here. Like you said nothing to do with model building.

Dave I think that’s my problem at the moment. I need to get back to the bench and have fun and not to feed on the political side of this forum.

Well said Tim.

Thanks for the encouragement Steve I appreciate it. Well said.

i feel ive got to say something, even though i dont want to, since it was the thread i started that caused Andy to write this thread

im not angry or anything like that, merely disappointed....i didnt want to propose it in the first place and only did cos someone else asked me to

i simply couldnt be arsed persuing it further when people wanted to change it from what i proposed

I've run a couple of G.B's on here.

i thought i was concise.................a kit as sold in aldi/lidl but without the paints......cos 1) not all aldi/lidl kits came with paints and 2) we have already done a starter kit GB in recent years so didnt want to repeat it

as for keeping people in order , i simply dont have the enthusiasm any more

im not one for telling all and sundry on here what is going on in my life by writing a thread about it, there is maybe 2/3 people i have confided what i have gone through in the last 3 years (mostly cos i doubt people would believe me) but my mental health has deteriorated this year to such a point that i have had to give up work......my job was all about solving problems and confrontations.........i just cant do it any more, i cant deal with people or situations any more (even using a phone can cause my anxiety to spike).....and it applied to that thread too...... i just dont want the hassle any more

model making has always been my escape....something to distract and focus on but theres still plenty of days id rather hide in bed and avoid life completely

but thats my problem, not any of yours

im probably going to get shot down in flames or ignored again with this statement but this place isnt the friendly place it once was, and thats for quite a few reasons

i honestly wish i had never proposed that GB in the first place, and i know i shall never propose another

Paul,
I totally get where you are coming from with the GB.
I usually stay out of this kind of debate but I don't want to see you put off this excellent forum because of this. MOST of the people here are a delight, it's just that as with any community some see things differently from others. And you are unlikely to find another online environment more benign than this.

I don't feel you needed to contribute to this particular thread, but thanks for sharing your 'context', shall we call it?
Please continue to visit this forum, to share your work and continue to use the modelmaking as the excellent therapy it undoubtedly is.
All the best
Neil

Paul,
I think a proposal is just that - a suggestion as to a future development; most of us here (and on similar fora) are escapists; we create, imagine and attempt to recreate. Our perceptions and intentions may vary greatly, and our interpretations may vary in the way we express them but - to be honest - aren't we all entitled to our opinions and aren't they worthy of consideration? Just a thought mate ...
Steve
