I'm Rick and been a member of this site since 2011. Like many I built models kits as a boy until birds, beer and a career came along. One Christmas I was given a train set, by the girlfriend who became my wife, that reignited an interest in modelling railways for many years but I did build a lot of railway related kits including the ex-JB models range as wagon loads.
Then one day I was watching The Battle of Midway and later the same day strayed into Modelzone and saw a USN Dauntless and Avenger on the shelf. Seduced by the box art I took them home, the Dauntless was the old Airfix kit and was built while the 1/48 Avenger is still in the loft.
Since that fateful day my railway interest has waned but that is largely due to the huge rise in prices of railway stuff. I still dabble in them and do the odd weathering commission here and there.
As for plastic modelling my interests are mostly post 1939-ish aircraft and have had a go at RAF, US, Japanese, Ethiopian, Argentinian and German subjects in various scales. Being a member of this site has encouraged me to try scales and brands I shied away from in the past - I had never done anything other than 1/72 before and mostly Airfix, Revel or Italeri. I also moved from enamel paints to acrylics and have learned so much from other modellers on this site about a huge range of different elements of modelling.
With my aircraft builds I use aftermarket and scratch building where I think it benefits the model or if I can afford it - I used to super detail and weather my railway stock so this is a natural progression. I also work in the aerospace industry so with my builds so try to replicate them as closely as possible to how the real thing would be parked, taxiing or undergoing maintenance and also with weathering.
I'm not an exclusive aircraft modeller, I have done a few small scale armour and soft skin subjects - a big step change for me is a 1/35 Airborne jeep and gun with crew that has come to a grinding halt as I rebuild my man cave.
With the rapid expansion in forum membership I hope we'll see more knowledge and problems being shared, I see this as an opportunity to broaden all our horizons and develop new skills, ideas and friendships

just like to say been reading all your ,guys post like what ,I,m reading and find it interesting,:thumb2:

Hi I'm Ian, joined the forum 7 years ago on the 9th May. Like just about every body else started building kits when a kid then life got in the way. I used to just built aircraft, but after joining here I will just about build any thing ( well try ) not the best modeler but I have fun trying and that's the main thing. So to all Old and New Happy modeling.

Hi im colin. I mainly build afv models in 1/35 from ww2 through to modern day.

Hi, I'm Doug. Been modelling on and off since I was a kid. My latest modelling stint began about 5 years ago, and I specialise in 1/72 WW2 aircraft. I'm now retired, so have a bit more time (and a bit less hand-eye coordination and eyesight). In modelling terms, I'm a completer-finisher - I nearly always finish kits I start, and my stash is tiny. Please note, that word was 'stash', not any other word you may wish to substitute.

Hi, I'm Richard, born to a Eurasian family in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia with three sisters who support my hobby very enthusiastically. Father was a military man so that's where I got my affection for anything that's military in nature. My wife and I have been married for twenty-eight lovely years and we have a daughter. They both leave me in peace to model away in a tiny corner of the store room. I'm from a creative background in advertising.

I confess to being a die hard diorama modeler although I tinker with all genre but have stayed away from Gundam's. My addiction to plastics started at a very tender age of seven when my uncle introduced me to an Airfix Fokker Freindship which he built for me as a birthday present. Obviously I destroyed my first build an Airfix Tigermoth. Everything else then was Airfix as it was the only brand available at Naafi's. Later I was sucked into Mongrams 1/48 scaled planes. No doubt Sheperd Paine was the main influence for weathering my builds. This was where I came across the little pamphlets with his dioramas.

Tamiya was a revelation for me when a friend showed me his Tamiya catalogue No.2. It was a weird scale...everybody else was 1/32 and this brand was 1/35 but boy was it a treasure trove to create dioramas. I got into my first competition in 1977. Then Italeri came into the picture. I soon had the whole range of their military vehicals. The playing field has changed since but I still have both these brands in my dios.

As the story usually goes the time of adolescence put a stall to modelling for a few years and only revived in the eighties. Initially the dios were huge projects but have now been compressed to manageable size for want of space and time. Lately I take my time and some of my builds take years. Thankfully my friends are patient and supportive. Well that's the gist of it and will post a thread with some stuff that I have actually finished. I'm glad to find a new home.

Cheers,
Richard
