Those etch brackets looks far better. Your replacement for the one stolen by the carpet monster is excellent. It is often difficult to place PE parts correctly. The carpet monster will probably return the pinged off piece now he has had a good chuckle watching you crawl about on the floor and then waste an hour scratching a replacement :rolling:

Jim, Thanks mate luckily It was basically just flat pieces that needed putting together. I could hear him chuckling and I will probably find it when I am not looking for it.

HI Jim what you said is very very true poor Scottie as ive found out but most of my lost bits to the carpet monster is usaually nicked off him by mr hover pushed by SWMBO :smiling:

Work continued on the hull. I removed the thick featureless offerings from the hull, I should have done this before I started work on the drive train and suspension.


These were replaced with etch offerings which look a lot better.



All the linkages and springs were added. The detail is not good but as most will not be visible when finished and will be dirted up.



I had to remove one of the etch brackets as it was slightly out of position and unfortunately it pinged off never to be found so I scratched one out of pieces of styrene and as I said it will get dirted up.

Annoying when bits go flying to infinity and beyond but scratched replacement looks good - just missing the corner infill pieces at the top corner of each side (bottom in the upside down photo)

Great work. I don't know if it's a scale thing or what, but those drive shafts looks tiny, for moving such a beast along. OK, there's a few, sharing the load I suppose.

Hi Colin, your right they do look a bit thin but as you say they all take the strain. Jakko has posted a useful pic showing them.

I have fitted the top half of the hull to the bottom half and added the rear inserts. The fit was very good and took the minimum of filler.

While this was set to one side to dry I made a start on the replacement engine deck. The shape was cut out along with the holes for the etch grill assemblies. I have left it a touch big so I can sand it to blend with the hull when it is glued in place.

The etch grills were not the easiest things to put together but it does come with a little jig to help. When they had been fitted They were edged with evergreen.





Next job is to add hinges, handles bolts etc.

Spent the morning making some hinges from pewter, copper wire and punched rivets hopefully they look the part.


I have just noticed I have knocked a rivet off of one of the hinges.
