Afternoon all, my latestkarpov 1-16 fill build is the Polikarpov 1 -`16
A check on the history bring some interesting facts.
Built at State Aircraft Factory No. 39 near Moscow was in fact a Soviet prison. Not only was the plane the product of convict labor, even more remarkable, the two inmates who designed it were among the nation's most talented aeronautical engineers. One was Dmitri Grigorovich, creator of the flying boats that had served the Czar's Navy in World War I. The other was Nikolai Polikarpov.
Both has fallen from favor with the mad man Stalin during one of his many purges in 1929.

Polikarpov and his design team were sentenced to an "internal prison," there to continue their work under the close supervision and scrutiny of the state. Evidently, his prosecutors judged him too vital to the future of Soviet military prowess to inflict the usual penalties of summary execution or slow death in a labor camp !

The first flight of the I-16 was on December 31, 1933, and it was far ahead of any fighter design at the time. It featured retractable landing gear, a cantilever wing, enclosed cockpit and variable pitch propeller. While wire bracing and struts were eliminated by other countries in stages, advanced planes of this type were being developed in Russia as early as 1932. Although not among the best remembered aircraft of the 1930s, it was nevertheless a very able and rugged machine and featured.
A highly movable plane perhaps best known for its steel propellers which the pilots were told to hit the rear of German bombers, and then bale out. It was no match for the Messerschmitt Bf 109.

The Soviets have longed been accused of being copyists by the west, but this time they were years ahead.

Many of you might remember this from the "other house "

2019.jpg

Look very muck akin to the later version with out those top wings.

Box . 2019_2.jpg

A very simple kit, a little flash .

Didn't take long before I was at this stage.2019_5.jpg
The wheel supports were properly the most fiddly, but mamagable.
I've not put the pilot in as want to have some of the radial engine on show with a cowling off as in the last photo

A bit of filler, trying the new Vallejo, , don't know what color to do yer, maybe the light blue underside and good old 4 BO.

Comments welcome.
John.

Hey John why have you got a camouflaged bench top it makes it very difficult to see a green model :tears-of-joy::tears-of-joy::tears-of-joy:.
Taxi for Pete.

Misread title completely, thought you were tackling a 1/16 scale plane!

John, you're brave to tackle this little bugger and ought to try a larger scale but you're doing ok you naughty boy you...obviously you like pain. :smiling6: How do you find the Vallejo Filler? I find it doesn't stick. I'm guessing it's for painted areas where there will be no sanding or agitating but just to fill up and wipe ready for painting. What say you?

Cheers,
Richard

Hi John
Interesting history. Horrible colour plastic  Looks to be going well.

Not done any thing today apart from the posting bit
A strange day as my mate who lives a couple of houses away is in hospital , suffered a heart attack yesterday
Been waiting over a year for Papworth and Peterborough to make a decision about his condition. Now of course something may happen .
Hopefully might get some done tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your mate John.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi John,

bit of a ropey looking old kit you've got there - just looked it up and according to Scalemates it dates from 1964!

Don't know if you have noticed but in the photo of it upside down it looks like the lower wing is misaligned with the fuselage - big gap on one side and an overlap on the other, near the front end

ICM do a nice large version in 1/32 - a lot newer as well being from 2017

Oh talk about pick em Simon , I shall have a look after lunch, No no NOT IN THAT SCALE . Would show up even more mistakes. :tongue-out3::smiling:.

You certainly have a knack of picking them John :smiling3:

At least you would be able to see it more easily in large scale so less chance of missing things. New kit as well so should actually fit together

Simon...John just loves pain :tears-of-joy::smiling6:

Cheers,
Richard

Well having put the new needles and tips in I thought all would be well. Sprayed a coat both to the top and base, now all washed off , utter rubbish, large spots of paint. Just nor flowing atall well .Ive checked with neat, to thinned , still the same ?

Seems to have very low pressure, regardless what the gauge says. I even removed the bottom drain plug, no great woosh of air either.
When I spray the paint seems very under pressure, even when I turned up the setting to 40, no difference !
I've used both of the ab's and both seem to be the same just lacking in air. Yet when I depress the value in the connector to the ab there is air there. All very strange,so .4 and .2 in each ab are effected.
Has any one any idea.

Going to post this as well in ab section.
