John - morning. Yes it is the RPT cutter, bought from John at the shop. Rather expensive but a very nice piece of kit and much better than the Cutter. Used it to make the arm with the 45deg angle on the end

Yes Simon some grand improvements with this, the fully adjustable arms look really well designed. Does the cutter blade cutter still tend to under cut as the chopper does , or have they strengthened the arm as well ?
Too late for me to splash out on one, I shall have to continue with the old one, but have some ideas re mods .

What do you mean by under cut? Cut the part shorter than you want it to? I’ve not really checked that with mine, but the whole thing feels sturdier than the Chopper, I know that.

John - as Jakko says it is a very robust piece of kit. The handle is 4mm thick and as far as I can tell has zero sideways movement. It appears to cut as it should. One thing to watch for though is that the quadrants go slightly past the 90deg point when pushed to the stops - they could have done better with that.


added the etch crane support and a couple of bolt heads inside the plastic bracket

Looking at the references showed that there should be a curved insert inside the etch part to help clamp the crane pole so I added a plastic block and filed a semi circle out of it until the crane pole was a nice fit


used the kit winch gear but added a few mods for the mounting plate





crane was then trial fitted a few times and the wire adjusted to connect to the rockets etch lifting band

once happy with everything I stuck the crane in place and glued the rocket to its surroundings so it looks to be suspended but is in fact fixed down


assembled more rockets and added wooden packing strips to one of them from micro strip


made a start on adding the shovel - had the usual problem with the etch holder not being deep enough so a bit of filler was required

towing shackle and jack block added to the rear hull

the jack block mounting brackets provided on the Eduard fret are incorrect so I made my own from sections cut from the fret


no headlight bracket provided in the Eduard set so made my own from an unused part then sanded the kit bracket off to leave the light mount


bashed up the side skirts a bit more


and added the shovel

I think that just leaves the jack, radio aerial and some brackets on the engine deck to sort out now :thinking:

the jack suffers from sinkage on both sides so will need work

the jack after carefully removing the solid moulded brackets and the few rivets - ejector pin marks and sinkage



had to remove the mechanism parts so that I could fill the pin marks and sinkage

Replacement parts made then rivets added around the perimeter along with the etch brackets (looks like one rivet has fallen off so will replace that)


some bolt heads added around the crane to finish it off
