Hi all

I have been fascinated by all types of puppets for a long time. I recently found on Netflix that Henson has made a remake of the Dark Crystal, which some of you may remember was initially made on the early 80's. Now not a critic of the film but I loved the puppets that were constructed to reshoot this story.

This inspired me to have a go at sculpting and animating a largeish scale puppet of a character loosely based on the characters in this production. Here is my basic head built on an armature made with a 3D pen.

I wanted to try to make the eyes move and the mouth so they could be operated as a hand puppet. Finally the eyes proved too much of a challenge for my limited skills but I did get the mouth to move.

Still along way to go with a real wig to construct, painting obviously, and then a glove puppet style costume. I must say I am having great fun with this and I hope that eventually my granddaughter will get a kick out of playing with it.

One of my all time favourite films, though I haven't watched the Netfli prequel.

Tim thanks you have to keep challenging yourself, at least until the wheels fall off.
Karl I just love the puppets I haven't watched all the episodes yet.
Peter Thanks jack of all trades and master of none that's me.
Jim Thanks man having a granddaughter keeps the imagination firing.
Paul Thanks for looking in.

Added a bit more.

Need to soften the veins a little then start to think about paint and hair.

Still working away on this elf type figure. Hair and make-up just about done, she could do with a decent "Do" though.

Looking a bit sad at the moment.

This one is finished. I can't post a video but I am having lots of fun learning how to be a puppeteer and making short video.

Ah....Gelfling! That is just magic......it is at least as good as the film incarnations.

Hi guys

I have really got the bug for animating characters so I am working on Mk II. I wanted to improve on just the mouth working by adding eyelids, and 2D head tilts. Still lots to do but the main mechanics are done. This was a real challenge to build using just simple hardware items that can be bought in the local DIY. Still only limited animation but it is interesting how many expressions just this simple puppet can express.
