Latest Acquisitions (2020)

Hi all

So the first item below arrived today for my North Africa vignette. I was looking for some mesh for the the exhaust when I stumbled across this - my first major set of PE.

And after recommendations and advice from Laurie (thanks very much Laurie), I also invested this heat gun and some low flux solder - I hedged my bets never having used it before and got both paste and liquid.

Hi Jon

No. The hot air gun was a recommendation from Laurie and the flux's from eBay. Under £25 for the lot. Will PM details to you later when I'm not at work. Assume you're in the UK?

Been to Hobbycraft to spend my retirement voucher. Not a big choice and not the cheapest, but who am i to complain so

Airfix early Tiger, Its a Academy rebox so a mixture of coloured sprues and for some reason the instructions are in three bits?? It has a interior

Tamiya Achillies, looks nice

And finally no StuG in stock and the only one they list is the old StuG IV anyway

Cheers bob

That Tiger is pretty inaccurate, in case you want to know :) As I recall, the turret shape is off because it dates from around the time the real shape was published, and the interior is missing a lot of bits and has many that are too thin. The M4A3 (76) HVSS (it’s not called an “M4A3E8” :)) is the same kit I’m building as a wrapped-up tank for shipping, and I quite like it, even though I don’t think it’s entirely up to Tamiya’s normal standard.

Not worried, free really and good interior painting practice!

Modelling mojo yet to return, so when I saw this was being re-published, I put in an order. After a quick flick through, I'm fairly sure it will do the job!!

Well my Ju88 arrived today along with the 9 brand new Tamiya paints. Working out the cost of the postage and the paints, i feel i got the actual kit for an absolute steal. Probably 1/3 of what they normally go for on evilbay. Rather chuffed :)

A very early variant of the M4A1 medium tank by Asuka, which (of course) I intend to do slightly differently than you usually see them :) The kit is slightly strange, in that it seems to be an el cheapo edition that comes without decals and photoetched parts, and in a box with little more than a photo of an unpainted model on the front. Still, who cares if the kit is good?

Hi all

So today I hit half a century.

The plan had been to take the family skiing at Christmas but COVID has put an end to that, so will have to wait for another year....

Nonetheless the day was brightened by a few arrivals.....

After a cr*p week and my old booth gaving up the ghost just had a new one delivered.

Its larger than most, 55cm across and has 3 leds which are dimmable and 2 fans again speed adjustable.

No lights

Took 5 mins to set up and as the garage was very cold, glad it did! Will keep it assembled but well covered to keep the elements off. Looks the business, yet to use as i was turning into a brass monkey.

This leads to the next purchase, a heater!
