Must admit that for timber, I've had some good results using cold coffee to stain (last project took a couple of applications of really strong coffee to turn 'pale' to 'teak'), though not too sure how it would work on balsa - might well penetrate too deeply
Thanks - as I said, hadn't tried it with balsa.ive done the same but when i did it to balsa i found it caused fibres to stand up and give almost a 'furry' appearance.......guess it was the liquid causing balsa to absorb/expand?......think it also depends on how dense the balsa is
