What a change in the weather from under 40 f during the day to a high today of 48 f .

Meanwhile in the cave the following was achieved, gone have the wooden top halves of the rifle racks, too wide in between to look right.
Drilled some Balsa out with a .4 drill and ca's some wire in from the back. Also glued some pewter into the floor, even bent the edges to fit in between the boards !





Now I advise Members of the Untidy Bench Club at this point to turn away.

IVE' HAD A CLEAN UP !!!!!! Like Paul no room and staring to loose more things than I find.

From my normal bench.


To this, of course this will not last.:smiling3::nerd::nerd: Sorry Jim failed again.:loudly-crying:


Did find numerous items, a sandwich, sock , bike , and some PE.

Bit more done , some of rifles have has straps , spent a lot of time, removing the straps from my fingers, the ca holder from my wrist and hand, very time consuming.

Made a mix up of paint for the basic wash for the timber.The good thing is the water has raised the grain, making it look much more like bark.




Made up the tarp for the door, used some eyelets Paul ( Scottie ) kindly sent me. Need to play around with it a bit more yet. Also cut out some paper for coats hanging upand treated it as above with V.M.S LIQUID.





Don't know how many times now I've put it together to check as I add more things,
It's the only way with this type of dio, so you can keep checking all is fitting.

Must admit that for timber, I've had some good results using cold coffee to stain (last project took a couple of applications of really strong coffee to turn 'pale' to 'teak'), though not too sure how it would work on balsa - might well penetrate too deeply

ive done the same but when i did it to balsa i found it caused fibres to stand up and give almost a 'furry' appearance.......guess it was the liquid causing balsa to absorb/expand?......think it also depends on how dense the balsa is

Thanks - as I said, hadn't tried it with balsa.

In the Gun trade we called it "Whiskering"......New gunstocks were wiped down with a wet cloth to raise the grain so they could be final sanded before finishing. I do like the effect that you have achieved in this case JR as like you said.....a little like tree bark. I think it will be the Bomb! :thumb2: Rick H.
