I have just heard that the great Murray walker has passed away RIP sir you are a legend.

"And it's GO GO GO!"

Worth so much more then an OBE and in this day and age where the word "Legend" is banded around so easily. He truly was one

RIP Murry. Gone but never forgotten.

Always used to commentate standing up.....truly a one off......

An institution!

Monday mornings in the office there was normally a discussion of the latest 'Murrayism' together with the usual impersonations......

F1 was never the same..... RIP Murray.

A sad day indeed, his enthusiasm for motorsport always shone through. He was a tank commander late in WW2, went into advertising & commentated as a weekend job, until retiring from advertising. Gave us many memorable moments, he will be missed.

Sad day indeed , he was truly a legend in the world of F1. His enthusiasm was infectious and you could tell he really loved the sport , RIP Murray .

Not only F1, can remember his commentaries on 'Rally Cross' on a Saturday afternoon.
Sad, sad day.

Yep, I remember rally cross....I was watching when he made the infamous “clean windscreen” quote.....

For those of us who are unfamiliar. What is the the "infamous quote"? PaulE

Can’t remember the name of the driver Paul, but Rally Cross was basically racing on a mud plain......the cars (minis and Mark 1 escorts mostly I think) used to have cut outs in the windscreen to give themselves a fighting chance of seeing anything, especially if they were chasing another car....driver “Harry” overtook someone and Murray said something like....”Now Harry’s in the lead he’ll show us the advantage of having a clean windscreen “ ...... Harry then went round the next corner too fast, obviously couldn’t see it, and rolled his mini .....prompting Murray to say “Oh my word, what have I said”......

Another one that sticks in my memory, was a mini well out in the lead, clear track and Murray said " All he's got to do is drive to the finish line!" the next thing, the car went straight into a bank on the next corner!

Excuse me while I interrupt myself but the one I remember is I am going to stop my start watch lots of murrisams that will be missed

..... "And with half the laps completed, we have half the race still to go"....

And my favourite, when a driver came in for a tyre change as the track started to dry out....

ITS SLICKS ITS SLICKS ITS SLCKS (shouted very loudly)

Motorcycles were always his first love so he said.

Good old Murray!

Murray always said he had a 'tell all' book on F1 that would only be published after he was gone. We'll see

One favourite Murrayism I remember is pointing his mic at a serious bruise on Nigel Mansell's forehead, then tapping said bruise!

Still, for all the Murrayisms uttered, the man always knew exactly what he was talking about

The Tank Museum at Bovington has posted on Facebook " Murray Walker OBE has sadly passed away, aged 97. Well-known by the public as the voice of Formula One, he was known to the Museum as a WW2 Veteran, who had commanded Sherman tanks as a Captain in the Royal Scots Greys. He was a great supporter of The Tank Museum, giving various lectures about his life and Formula One, appearing at events and recording stories of his wartime service. "

I didn't know he'd been a tank commander.

It's at about 45 seconds in this series of Murrayisms, after Tarquini's crash.

Thanks Steve.....funny how memory plays tricks. In my head it was on a really muddy circuit with Minis and Mark 1 escorts, and in black and white......probably why I couldn’t find it LOL.....
