Does anybody know if Andy uses another site or if someone can let me know how to get in touch with him.Dave
I thought he was joking when he asked to delete his account. The attrition rate if I may call that of promising modellers is pretty high for this forum. Sad.Richard, he quit a while ago after getting a metaphorical slap for asking if Ron was OK. His account has been deleted.
Tim thanks for the info. Very sad that another one has left.Richard, he quit a while ago after getting a metaphorical slap for asking if Ron was OK. His account has been deleted.
Very sadly unfortunately all too true.....It's very easy to get the wrong end of the stick from comments made on the internet. Things can boil over very quickly..
Yep, hence why I think VERY carefully about anything I say in an electronic format....Absolutely. Including emails...without facial expressions it can go wrong very quickly.
Cheers,
Richard

Very true on both counts - being an owner (therefore a site admin) of a forum, it's often a hard and thankless job trying to 'keep the peace', and if a person asks for their account to be deleted, it's their decision - all any of the 'team' running the forum can do, is to try and get some dialogue going, but if all communication is one way, then all that's left to do, is to concede to that members wishes.Absolutely. This is what smileys were invented for. Unfortunately, this again depends on people reading them the way the writer intends them to, and IMHO there are far too many being used now to clearly convey that. Back in the day, all people used wasAbsolutely. Including emails...without facial expressions it can go wrong very quickly.
:-) and :-( to convey “I mean this in a funny way” and “This makes me sad”, respectively, which was pretty much universally understood. Now, even if you do use things like True, though I think the main task of an admin (something I’ve been doing for 20+ years) is to not do much of anything unless people are being insulting, abusive or otherwise disturbing the peace. If they’re not, let them do what they want.Very true on both counts - being an owner (therefore a site admin) of a forum, it's often a hard and thankless job trying to 'keep the peace', and if a person asks for their account to be deleted, it's their decision - all any of the 'team' running the forum can do, is to try and get some dialogue going, but if all communication is one way, then all that's left to do, is to concede to that members wishes.
King Log, rather than King Stork is usually the answer, but sometimes you do have to step in, and sometimes a member decides to take umbrage to what somebody has said, and request that their account is terminated - personally, I usually leave requests for at least a month, as some people will 'blow' and type in the heat of the moment, I feel that a month is usually time enough to cool off, and realise what they will miss - other forums other standards, knew of one that would hand out permanent bans just because you disagreed with a moderator (gone now, probably ran out of members :smiling5: )True, though I think the main task of an admin (something I’ve been doing for 20+ years) is to not do much of anything unless people are being insulting, abusive or otherwise disturbing the peace.
