Just had a catch up. This is coming along really well. Exhaust work in particular is top class. Cockpit is coming on nice as well.

Finally managed to get some time on this one today. Been carrying on with the cockpit which will be a mixture of the Eduard pe and the aries resin set . Ive painted the intake centre body and filled it full of lead and ball bearings , the painted shock cone going on after. It looks like a fat little baby Thunderbird 1 ! While this and the cockpit bits were drying I thought I’d have a look at some sub assemblies namely the wings. After gluing the outer movable panels together I had a quick dry fit with the inner sections . This revealed that you can only fit the outer wing panels in the fully forward or intermediate sweep settings . If you try and move them to fully swept , the trailing edge is too thick and it opens up the rear edge of the inner section . Not a problem as I wanted to do them fully forward anyway but something to bear in mind if you do this kit and want them fully swept.
I want to add the outer panels last off after painting and wanted them to be firmly located so ive added some bits of sprue to give them something to butt up against and I’m going to cut a slot from the pivot hole so I can just slide them in after all painting is done.

The women in my life spend a fortune on nails. How many times have I offered my services, as long as they want green, brown or grey, but alas no.
Starting to move along a bit quicker now . The inner wing sections have been glued after spraying the insides light green and the outer moving panels have had a slot cut to the pivot hole so they can be added last off. Ive also got the resin cockpit tub ,the intake cone and the exhaust fitted ,with the fuselage halves now glued together and setting nicely. A bit of adjustment is needed to fit the wing pylons and large fence extension on the inner wing -the pylons all have straight mating edges , ok if they were going on a 90 degree straight wing but theyre not . The toolmakers must have been feeling a bit lazy when they did this bit of the kit although the instructions do tell you to cut them to fit which shouldnt be a problem , just needs a lot of patience and dry fitting till its right . 
Fuselage has now had the seams cleaned up and the many panel lines that cross the seam have been reinstated using a fine razor saw . The two part fin and spine insert have been glued together and cleaned up and the spine insert has had the intake drilled out . The kit includes an insert without the air intake for the su22m3 version which obviously isnt needed here. The fin section has had a bit of sprue glued in to match the width of the spine insert. As with most builds its a case of dry fit , trim , dry fit , trim etc until you get the best fit . All too often I see people complaining about poor fitting kits with big gaps , if you just stick it together without a trial fit or trimming then you are going to get that , a little dry fitting and adjustment can save a lot of hassle and filler later .

Di you mean the wine foil or the dotting pen john? The wine foil is Terre di faiano organic primitivo , £9.99 Waitrose ( but often on offer at 6.99 , which is when i go and buy a case !! ) a beautifully smooth full bodied red . The dotting pen was off ebay , theyre for applying dots of nail varnish ( or in our case paint or embossing) Just search ‘Dotting pen’ , theres loads , i got a set of 5 various sizes double ended ones so you get 10 different sized balls ( ooh er !!) for less than £3. Theyre so much more accurate at placing a tiny round dot of paint than trying to use a brush , i use mine most often for cockpits and instruments .

Its the resin ejector seat , which was finished and ready to go in last off , it must have fallen on the floor and some idiots stood on it! ( me)
“Oh dear” said I or something like that :rolling: So ive now got to try and rebuild / repair it .
Back to the build and ive been looking at the airbrakes. Like a lot of kits the makers assume that everyone wants to have the airbrakes in the open position. Anyone who wants them closed is faced with a poor fit and a bit of hassle to get a decent result . After a lot of fettling they are sitting flush and a quick wipe over with vallejo acrylic putty should blend them in nicely.
