Or... is it really that bad.
Well the time has come to embark on a detailed build of this kit which has gotten a very bad name as being a pig. Lets see if we can, despite that reputation, make a silk purse.
This has been lurking in the stash since I bought i 2013! where it got parked up after reading some very bad reviews.

What's in the box:
Well a whole heap of sprues, lets have a very quick look.
A good solid box with a rather nice graphic depicting the subject out playing in the sand.

The sides of the box show the two other options that can be built.

A winter camo version, which has no serial shown.
IMAG1127.jpg
And a GR1 out of 54sqn, and a profile of Sadman... which will be my victim. More on that in a bit.

The sprues are well packed, each 'set' in their own plastic bag.
IMAG1110.jpg
Did I say the box is FULL.

The clear parts are just that: Clear.
IMAG1112.jpg
Nose parts with interior detail and open panels!
IMAG1113.jpg
Be fun painting that!
IMAG1118.jpg
Smaller parts of the fuselage, cockpit and weapons pylons etc. X2
IMAG1119.jpg
The detail is actually rather good.
IMAG1120.jpg
More 'gubbins'

IMAG1117.jpg
Main Fuselage parts.
IMAG1116.jpg
Fine panel lines and rivet detail...Lets hope they dont all get sanded off!

IMAG1114.jpg
Bombs! loads of bombs X2

IMAG1115.jpg
Even more bombs X2
And last but not least :
IMAG1123.jpg
Decals.
IMAG1124.jpg
More decals for the Sadman version.

IMAG1126.jpg
And some PE to get the hump over...

One last one.

For the first time ever I have had to wash the parts off. Most where covered in release agent.

Right then I'm off for some lunch!

Nice one Ian, I've wanted to build this one also, but the reviews well and truly put me off it. I'll sit and watch this, then decide if I should get one.

Hi Ian
Well it looks fine :rolling: Didn't Barry have real trouble with a Kitty Hawk kit?
It will be interesting to see if a silk purse can be made from it.
Jim

well Ian i aint sayin nothing let you find out for your self GOOD LUCK
an on the decals as well if they are anything like mine were

Hi Ian
I built this one and it certainly put up a fight at times but with a few extras I'd bought it built into a great looking Jag. My pics are still on here somewhere.

I had this kit and I looks great in the box, after a member at model club told me of his struggle with it that’s exactly where it stayed and was transferred to the “too difficult” pile. I sold it to another club member/gullible fool*.

Took ages to find Ian and will take it down as soon as you've seen it. I had issues with the engine fit and ended up leaving some of the bits you couldn't see in the box, then it closed up ok. It got called lots of names but I couldn't give up on it.

I'm in,

Always wanted to have a go at this build, but got scared of the seemingly endless negativity that surrounds it... who knows your build might just make me take the plunge and grab one...

Looking forward to this Ian , we all love an underdog , and this kit has been called a dog many times !

Nice one Mick, no need to delete it, I'll let it slide this time...lol
Could I ask which paint you used? Colour look good.

Well I hope you all enjoy the ride.
I will put some pictures up tomorrow but I put the bang seat together and some or the tub. Going to need a splash of paint before I put it together though.

Ian,
you never know, the ageing may have released any stress, and the parts may go together easily - but I wouldn't count on it.
Dave

WELL on the colour of the real planes as i was working up raf coltishall at the time an me an a m8 went an see the real planes in their hanger when they came back from the war an i see this plane in there thats in the kit an to me an my m8 the colour was very weird as yes it was a sandy colour with a hint of pink very strange colours indeed

AN YOU would be right Dave if Ian kit is as bad as mine was

It will be nice to see this one being built. By the sound of all the reviews, it's definitely a kit for modelers, not assemblers.

I know it's supposed to be a pinky colour but I used what I had for a gulf war challenger build so it was a Tamiya rattle can of their desert yellow.
