Bah! Humbug!

Thanks for the support guys. Apparently not finished yet though. New motor for my vacuum cleaner (£65 remember?) arrived this morning. Fitted it with no problem but vacuum still has same fault. Back to Dyson's help centre ....

Oh, and my toaster is making funny noises and doesn't seem to be heating up properly. :upside:

OH NO not more bad luck Dave on the toaster ithink you are in the money pit

Well after that run of luck I hope that the rest of the year is more rewarding!

Good heavens Dave, I thought bad luck came in three's.

Can't get no worse ,if there is a plus side I suppose the injuries were a good excuse to spend more time at the bench be interesting to see what you've been up to with time on your hands. Dave

That's tough Dave......and we might not be able to get to Cosford again this year! Now that is serious!

On the subject of things not heating properly, a few years ago, my 20 year old central heating boiler started to have a dicky fit, throwing out black smoke. Thinking it was past it's useful life and not worth trying to fix, again, I disconnected it from the system. I then dragged the thing out of our garage, and into the yard. It was only then I noticed a tiny mouse's foot hanging out of the air intake fan housing. During the summer, the poor creature had made it's home in there and when the boiler turned on for winter use, the mouse was minced up in the fan blades, blocking the air intake to the boiler. Hence the black smoke.
I cleaned the housing, dragged the boiler back into the garage, re- connected the thing and it started first time! Managed to get a couple more years out of it after that...

It's heartening to see I'm not the only one who's been upsetting the Gods, and it's definitely our job to keep upsetting them - we can't leave all that to the priests and shamen, poor b*****s will be exhausted, but what's this about Cosford? They can't be cancelling again this year surely!

PS Dave (Lovell). I've been sat here thinking what I've done over the last few months. Apart from catching up with lots of lost sleep over the years, I can't think of a single thing I've done! No bench time at all, very little TV, I've even fallen a month behind on my daily Sudoku. I did spend a couple of weeks in October researching questions and putting rounds together for the quizzes I run at my local pub, but they've stopped now until Easter.

As I'm retired I suppose it's OK to take time off from stuff, but the problem with doing nothing is that you never know when you've finished. My grandson will be back at my bench for the Russian tank GB in a couple of weeks so hopefully that will spark a bit of life back into my modelling.

Yaaayyy! Got my vacuum sorted (£65 for a new battery pack) and my central heating and hot water is also working (I'm sure I saw a glint in the plumber's eye when he saw the old boiler he had to take out. Methinks he'll be looking at the Antiques Roadshow for a valuation). Now for the first time in my life I have hot water on demand instead of having to switch on either an immersion heater (remember those?) or a boiler. B****y wonderful!

Good news about the toaster too - it seems to be working properly now!

Now I've just got to take my car into the garage on Monday to fix a 'clonking' noise from the back end (hopefully just one of those rubber strap things holding the exhaust) and find out why the dashboard warning light about my battery/alternator came on yesterday.

PS Still not won the lottery.

PPS Oh Gods!! Just checked the Shropshire Model site and they're saying that Cosford will not run again this year due to Covid regs. That was at the end of November last year. Has anyone got any more up-to-date info now the Covid regs have changed?

HI Dave glad to hear your luck is changeing for the better
chris

Gotta wait for the bill from the garage before I can work out how much 'better' my luck has got Chris.;)
OH WELL Dave there is always a downside isnt there no matter how lucky you feel but jen an i hope you are on the way up for the better
chris

Dave,
Your tale(s) of woe remind me of a classic C&W song called (I think) 'Things Have Gone To Pieces' - can't remember the singer though! As my mother used to say "Worse things happen at sea!", mind you if you had much more ill-luck your ship would be well on the way to becoming a dive site! Good luck for the rest of the year mate! :face-with-head-bandage:
Steve

Blimey Dave, you’re still going through it mate! On the flip side though, you’ll appreciate the little wins all the more when you eventually get them, and hopefully you won’t have to wait too long :thumb2:

Hi Dave
Well things are going in the right direction. Just hope the garage bill is not too bad, something simple like you say.
Jim

Dave, I will not add our new house vicissitudes: they are on the same line of yours and Peter's, but of a lesser magnitude (only because we do not live there, yet...).
Plumbers, electricians, decorators are a worldwide spread spawn with a completely personal view on calendars, quality standards and bills....
Hope your share of bad luck for 2022 has already been depleted.

Andrea
Andrea I was pleased to see you didn't include joiners and other wood butchers:smiling3:
In my working life I found plumbers to be the most frustrating people ever , always late, always going to the supplier. I evening managed to tame one , that took years !

Dave, good to read all is well once more.

Perhaps the clonking was big boxes you left in the boot after our last visit to Cosford?

Speaking of which, that's a blow - No Cosford, again!

Glad to see some good news from you Dave. Hope the clonk is something simplecheap. Simple doesn't necessarily equate to cheap!
Good-ish news here too. We had the heating system converted from vented to pressurised on Mondy and one of the TRVs replaced - made no difference, we still had two rads not getting hot. The company sent a different Heating Engineer (he gets upset if he's called a plumber) yesterday. He dismantled all the TRVs and changed some setting inside them, which has stopped all except one chattering. He also managed to use the system pressure to blow a lump of sludge out of the inlet pipe (8mm microbore) to one rad, and we now seem to have heat in all the rads for the first time in months! Don't know how long that'll last.

Yes, shame about Cosford. Wonder if any of the other shows will go ahead. Southwell would be nice, or St Ives, or Coventry, or, come to think of it, practically anywhere!

Pete

You thought about hibernating Dave? Jeez mate, that is a lot of bad luck. I would send you positive vibes but, they don't seem to be working for me and I think, you have had enough mishaps. Keep well and safe.

P.S I can relate to the cat, mine is trying to do me in also. :tongue-out3:
