Thanks John, I'll warn the cats of the presence of a woofy on the mantle.

Decided that the red I painted on the gun cradles was leaning towards magenta so I dry brushed light brown to tone it down...

I did the same to the undersides of the gun doors...and will wash it with wood grain.

The I whitened the open side of the doors again.

Thanks Tim, I just placed the carronades to the cradles and glued them down...cute little buggers.

The blueing seems to set carronades off with that extra shine.

The one on the gun deck is more apparent. I don't know if blueing the guns were a technique already used at that time.

They used black lead, well rubbed in, Richard; a mix of lead and graphite, that when applied over the cast metal provided a long-lasting protective layer. The use of bronze for main armanent was virtually non-existent by the time Constitution was launched.

Thanks Steve for the info. Good thing I covered the bronz/brass with the gunmetal blue then as graphite tends to give off a blue hue or artistically an unnatural blue highlight in movies from the DOP's lighting.

Spent about four hours just getting the whites and dry brushing the hinges to the gun doors. I have nipped them off the sprue and the edges need filling down and red wood touched up.

I swear my next tall ship will be the Cutty Sark with no guns.

Thanks Jim, I think Revell produced both in 1/220 and 1/96. I've got the 1/96 kit basically started by a friend...dry fitting, gave up and passed it on to me. It's got to be built someday...quite a large vessel and very tall masts. Her sails will have to be full bloomed to look grand and I think the vac-formed sails are a bit flattish.

Thank you John R, I guess they'll look alright once secured to the gun ports but I'll leave them off for now incase I knock some off during construction.
Been spending time relooking at the masts and noticed that during my early construction days I left a lot of seam lines showing. That has left a lot of clean up and scraping of the paint even. Repainting will be the next course and re-weathering. I'll take a shot of some of the seam line scrapings where some are in the most hard to get points. The main mast was broken half way up and was joined with a metal wire inserted for strength.

Well we try to award the Dogs when the build is in the completed section Chris
There have been times when the committee feel it is worthy even before it is finished .
How ever we do not want to issue the award on every occasion even when the work merit's it.
I hope this answer is acceptable .
