Scale Model Shop

Latest Acquisitions (2022)

That’s the popular version, but in reality it had various reasons for failing. The main one seems to be that the dogs had not been trained to run under moving tanks while there were guns going off all around them, and so either got confused or scared, or both, so didn’t fulfil the function they had been trained for.

Wash bottles, from APC Pure. One for water, one for isopropanol. How did I ever live without them? Fabulous!

There's a good article on this cruel idea on https://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2013/12/anti-tank-dogs-world-war-ii/
Seems that quite a few countries tried it out !

Brings back memories Ron. I built it as a rusting wreck a few years ago. Idu and his mates will enjoy it

I remember it well Jim, great model.

My version was moored outside 'The Clacker' pub and owned by Idu. I remember we all had a great laugh contributing nonsense to the 'Script' during the build......

You will be pleased to know the model is still in that awful red plastic!

Strange poses, I think......
The one on the right of the picture looks odd, yes — if there had been a mirror on the side of the tank it would make sense, but like this? He looks like he’s examining the surface finish of the tank, so maybe he’s a modeller taking the opportunity to inspect the real thing up close? :)

The other one left has a bit of a strange pose, it’s not quite the normal Arab relaxed squat, he looks more like he’s sitting on something. But that something must be hidden by his robe because the embankment he’s on doesn‘t seen high enough for him to actually sit like he is.

I had £35 worth of hobby craft vouchers emailed to me not much to choose from but I did come away with this IMG_20221107_115458.jpg

An Ebay 'best offer'

I've been wanting an early Japanese destroyer, to go with the 1920's carrier Hosho. The rarity of this model sadly means that you can't get them cheaply any more:crying:
You can pick up battleships for less than the more uncommon destroyers!

I remember those from school, we used to fill peoples pockets with water with them, you can get a lot of water into a trouser pocket before it starts to seep through......
(Charged capacitors in lab coat pockets was also a favourite.)

While waiting for a larger order to arrive and resume my Centauro build I took advantage of a temporary special offer (25% discount) on AIRES products in my LHS and bought those detail sets

Wouldn’t worry about the cats Bob, they can’t read, and they don’t understand English…..so they go where they want…..well, that’s what they tell us…..
