Very sorry to hear this, Dave. My best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I have been lucky enough to spend my whole life earning a living with my hands, and the loss of their use is my biggest fear in life . I wish I could afford to retire to make a start on all my ambitious projects.
I can't imagine the pain but I certainly can imagine the frustration.

sorry to hear about the flare up, and the resultant lack of bench time. Hopefully it will not last long.

in the 70's a cousin of mine had to start injecting insulin, he had to have a quiet word with his son (about 6 or 7 at the time) who told his teacher "my dad's a junkie"!

Update - the pain has just about gone, but my hand is still stiff - I almost have to make a conscious effort to bend my fingers, but a lot better than a few days ago. I'm going to to leave the bench alone for a few more days, then maybe a little light work to start with. Just in time to compensate for the avalanche of Christmas drivel appearing on Tv, that starts earlier and earlier each year!

Not had that issue myself, but then most tins these days have ring pulls. I can find them problematic, it being difficult to get the ring lifted and pulled if your hands aren’t working properly. If your mum struggles with them, tell her a teaspoon really helps. The bowl end can easily get under the ring and lever it up, and putting the handle through the ring then makes it very easy to lever off the lid.
